LSx or stay with the LT1
I've been planning to do a 383 LT1 build, but with much debate im wondering if its a smarter idea to put an LSx engine in my 95 Formula. How big of a PITA is it with all the wiring? I think money wise id be able to make more power with an LSx for cheaper. Just an idea what do you guys think?

the main issues with the LT1 is the aftermarket just hasn't embraced it at all. that and its a PITA to work on in the car. the opti isn't a bad piece, they just found the worst place to put it (save for maybe putting it IN the oil pan). initially it will be cheaper. you wont have to worry about needing a new cradle, steering rack, changing your wiring and so on. but if you can afford it, i vote for you to switch. you will be rewarded with about the largest aftermarket, behind the original small block of coarse. and it is just so damn easy to make horsepower with an lsx, even using factory stuff. you should ask the folks who made the switch from ltx to lsx. see what they say.

Kinda what i was thinking. You can get everything for an lt1 that you can for an older sbc. Hell if you feel like throwing the money around older style stuff can be converted.

They've got 9sec LT1's, and they've got 9sec LS1's. The LT1 is slightly older technology but is capable of making just as much power. You just always have to STAY ONE STEP AHEAD of an LS1 and don't let them know all your secrets. You want them to feel bad after losing to an LT1

to each their own, but coming from someone who does his own engine builds the LT1 is just a pain in the ***. i really don't want to add converting heads and intakes and removing optis for LS1 COILS to add to that pain. the lsx engines are better in every possible way. if they weren't the general wouldn't have quit making the lt1's (after a glorious 4-5 year run).
barring conversions the LT1 has a very weak aftermarket. and if they were "small block chevys" as i know a small block, i wouldn't have to pay out the *** for water pumps, distributors and damn timing gears.
any ways, the op already said he is sticking to the LT1.

lt1 is less of a pain to keep then too swap an ls in. plus when you shut down an ls with your lt itll be just that much better..
