Was looking forward to finally getting some track time with my car last weekend. In preperation, I started an oil change and noticed mangled metal fragments on my drain plug. I was cleaning them up when I heard a "thunk" in the pan.

I fished around in the pan and pulled out what looked to be part of a valve spring. I pulled off a valve cover and notice the inner coil on one of the valves was half missing. I found another large piece of this spring back by oil drain.

This sucks, but it doesn't look like anything else was damaged. I will have to check the pushrods, but I think those will be OK. Obviously, I need new springs.

I don't have the tool I need to get at the backs, and am not willing to spend $130.00 on one, so I might have someone else do it.

I'm also scratching my head why Comp 921s (which seem prone to breaking) are twice the price of everyone elses springs, even the new Comp 926s which are a stronger spring.

My cam is pretty mild by the standards of what is available now, so 921s are overkill, I would like to stick with a dual coil, any recommendations? Patriots or anything?

Mods are in my sig..

How long have you had the springs in? Do you always let the car warm up before beating on it?

They have maybe 15,000 on them, yes, I know the drill, the car is warm before it sees any rpm and full temp before it does any racing..

Odd that it broke. I am running Patriot springs myself. I have a G5x3 cam BTW.

I know, my cam is not all that wild, I have seen lots of posts of people with broken Comp springs, just wondering if that is still the case.
