The clamshell ones will probably weigh a teensy bit less due to their design. They have a different shape to them. Whether or not you will feel a difference though is debateable. I would get the cheaper ones. I didn't see if it said whether or not they were self-aligning or non-SA.

i got that same set of proforms when i did my cam swap upon recommendation of a reputable sponsor on here. and granted he has his reasons for it but i wouldn't recommend them. I had them on my car for a short time and the anodizing was already starting to come off and they just looked really cheaply made. the polylocks didn't feel right when i set them.

I ended up with the comp magnum 1418-16. while they are not a full roller they still do the job and are silent!! they are the same price as the proforms and are much better quality.

Yea those are better and lighter. But 7/16" studs which means he will have to also buy new studs.

Scorpions are also popular, lots of people on here run Scorpions and are happy with them. They are priced close to the Proforms too and are within your budget. Harland Sharp also makes some rockers within your budget but I believe they are NSA which means you will also need guide plates.

I wish some of the guys who have been camming their cars for decades would chip in with some of their experience.

I ran Proforms when I ran my Comp 503 cam. It performed very well. I had the self-aligning ones and also ran 918 beehives. Not a problem ever.

Ive done some research and I am going with scorpion 1003. The 1.6-7/16 setup. Seems like the best bang for the buck and its not some cheap junk.

Have them in my build. Damned fine. Expensive, but damned fine. The Scorpions are still a good rocker. Should work out well for you.

At higher RPMS, self-aligning rockers can lose control of the valve, jump off the valve stem tip, allow the rocker arm to ride on the retainer and result in a dropped valve, etc.

Guys on other Forums (maybe this one too) have posted about their failures and even include photos of the carnage. CompCams doesn't identify a specific RPM above which NSA rockers should always be used but Comp does say they're not recommended for use in any performance application.

NSAs give more reliable valve control. I'm running Scorpions on my engine and my son's as well. I went NSA, 7/16", 1.7s and my son's are 1.7/1.65s. They're priced right, quiet running high quality pieces. $222 at FlatLander Racing.

YES!! if you are just gonna swap to 1.6rr you can get by with running the LT4 valve springs. Last i heard you could get a set of those springs for ~$40.

There really isn't a point to swap to 1.5rr's your not gaining any lift just slightly less friction.
