Default Valve Stem seal question, done my research

Hey,

I'm trying to get new valve stem seals for my LS1 but I'm getting conflicting info on availability and parts. I had a 2001 Z28 that I took apart to give my 3rd gen an LS1. What I've found so far has been all fine. I have the LS6 intake as it should, standard 241 heads, and the EGR matches the pics from other 01 cars.

I'm doing a cam, valve springs, RR, etc. on the engine and what Iv'e found is the stock valve stem seals are the 2pc seat and seal combo. I thought all 01 and up LS1's are supposed to be the 1pc seat/seal. My PRC dual valve springs came with new seats so I will have to use the seperate seals but I'm having trouble finding the proper seals now.

Anyone have a Felpro or other than GM part numbers?

Thanks

I believe these are the correct GM part numbers, unless they have been superseded. Intake: 12533586, Exhaust: 12457652

Okay do you know this for a fact? This is what their catalogues show aswell, but my parts person at Lordco (in Canada...) talked to the Felpro rep and his info didn't specify the two kinds, nor did the pic.

I did get her to order it in anycase just to see, but if this is the right set can stop looking. Thanks alot!

The GM ones are still available but do have another number linked to them aswell, and are not easy to get. Seems like any LS parts are a pain to get here... Where I am, the stealership has to bring the one set of 8 from across the country and the other set in from the States. By the time I have the GM ones in they will be over $100. I can get the Felpro set for just over $20.

Like the LS2 timing chain I'm going to go with, the $28 one... Well the dealer has to, again bring it from the states, and is $140 for the chain alone. A Cloyes LS2 chain from Lordco for around $60.

It's retarded really...

Thanks again for your help.

Also I was wondering why my '01 would have the 2pc design... did that run over to some later engines due to preassembled heads perhaps? Or was 02 the only year with 1pc setup.

Got 16 seals from EPS, 16 bucks. Same as comp's viton seals.

The 98s are the 2 piece. Meaning the seal is separate from the seat. They changed when they went to the 241 heads iirc

We have them from GM or from US Seal (viton). In the 2 piece design that is.

I know this for a fact because I checked the part # on the box, and they had 8 exhaust and 8 intake in the box that fit my 01 perefctly. And I bought them in Canada for $20.

Heh not sure what your original info was but maybe it could have added some more confusion to this now.

Okay so when I say 1pc and 2pc I mean the seat and seal attached or seperate, so I do understand that part of it. Never seen the 1pc unit in person so I'm just picturing it in my head heh and I'm not an expert on LS1's by anymeans so the year brake is really messing thing up. I do have 241 heads so maybe all of them have the 2pc design. All the catalogues say 98-01 and 02 is a different number (with a pic for a 1pc)

I guess maybe I'm making a bigger deal of this than I need to. Just seems odd that no-one is familiar with LS engines when you go pick-up parts. And being half way through a cam swap it sucks trying to chase parts down. Just glad I've got the motor out and I'm not in a hurry to get it back in the car.

eseibel67 , Thanks for checking that. I'll go with them.

Thanks for your help everyone
