Hey guys i have a guy that has a new gm goodwrench LT1 longblock and he wants 2k for it.

Is that a good price?
i tried looking up the original price for it buy cant find any info.

Gm doesn't sell that long block anymore I'm pretty sure. The only guy's that have any I see are Golen and they run around 4 grand. http://www.golenengineservice.com/sp...l/350_360.html

Yea its a guy locally he said he's had it for a while just sitting around.

i really wasn't looking for a long block just ran across it but i am planning on building a motor for my camaro but its my daily driver so i can't afford for it to be without a motor so i though this might be the way to go.

anyways so then is 2k a good price

powertrain products had a short supply of new LT1 shortblocks for $1000 on ebay a year ago. considering the one you are looking at is a long block and most rebuilt longblocks run about the same i would say that is definitely fair especially for all virgin parts.

Okay guys i was doing some reading on the net and read that the goodwrench engines are not very good that they are made of cheap parts.

can anyone give me some info on this please cause am looking at buying one but dont want a junk motor.

A GM Goodwrench engine would be a warranty replacement engine, or a service replacement engine that was built on the same assembly line as the real LT1 engines. I'm not sure why you'd think it was made with cheap parts. If it's a genuine GM engine it will have the same stuff that the car originally came with. Yes $2000 is a VERY good price for a brand new engine.

I had heard when the LT1 was still being produced the going rate for a new GM longblock was in the 10K range...

okay i just wanted to make sure cause i read on some website that the GM performance engines were good but the GM goodwrench engines were made of cheaper materials.

And i talked to the guy and he told me that he bought the longblock back in 2000 for a project but never got around to it. He said he paid 2700 for it in 2000 does that sound right?

No, that sounds too low. The last time I saw a genuine GM LT1 engine for sale (crate motor) was at pace performance and it was $5500 or something like that. Granted it had an intake and a few other things.

Well is there anything i can ask for like the block number or somthing to check if its a genuine GM engine?

There are no aftermarket blocks for LT1's so of course it will have a GM LT1 block. Ask him if it came with a part number or something attached to it. If it is a real crate motor it shouldn't have a vin number stamped onto the pad in front of the passenger side cylinder head. If it's a rebuilt core then it will most likely still have a number there.

Okay i will be going to check the motor out on tuesday.
so i should look to see if there is a number stamped onto the the cylinder head?
If there is that means its a rebuilt core.

And what exactly does that mean?

1-2 years ago when dealers were clearing them out they were going for ~$1500-2000.

MSRP was $4500-5000 depending on year/model.

I was on one of the online dealer stores back in 2000 looking and I actually still had a catalog last time I looked about a year ago from them that had the long block with intake. It was around 3500 but it came with other stuff too. I think I looked at the time and a long block was aroud 2900 so I actual say he is close with his figure. If he still has the invoice that would help a lot. I have not unpacked my books yet but I will go look and see if I still have that catalog from 2000 and get back to ya.

I just looked and it's in storage if I still have it but I do remember because at the time I was wanting and engine for my 83 transam and I had nothing for cash but I remember the prices back then were GREAT. I could get a zz4 for like 3k, the 350 gm replacement engine was 1200 all brand new, the 330hp 350 was like 2400, and at the time they were still selling the LT1 and the LT1 with water pump and opti was like 3k and you could still buy an LT4 for like 3800. I ended up building a short block and then my kid was born so I had to sell it and when I got back around to looking for engines back 2004 I was SHOCKED at how much they went up in price. The LT1 was only avalibe in recon for under 3k and the long blocks were at like 3500 to 4000 and the lt4 was only a replacement engine, the zz4 was at like 4k, the 330hp was at like 3300. I kicked my self for a long time for not buying a couple of those engines. The zz454 was like 4500 LMFAO. Could of, Should of, Would of.
