Default Milling used heads Necessary?

Just picked up a used set of LE1 heads with 1500 miles on them, Do I have to get them milled? or can I just clean up the block and heads and bolt them on?

I would have them checked before you install them.

I'd just put a straight edge on them.

Whatever method they need to be checked before installing again. If they need any milling it most likely will be something like .004. Not enough to worry about fitment between heads/intake.

So If I run a straight edge across them and they are flat they should be good to go? They only have 1500 miles on them

correct and you will need to put a feeler gauge between the str8 edge and the head.

Make sure you inspect for any scratches or roughness. You should be alright if they are smooth, but I would have them checked at a machine shop. For $50 or so it is cheap insurance.

Don't use any old straight-edge to check the head surface. You'll want a machinist's straight edge, one that's perfectly square and flat.

Just make sure all the gasket material and carbon is cleaned off of the decks before you lay the straight edge on there, red scotch brite pads work well with a 2x4 or 2x6. Otherwise the straight edge might get held up too high in a spot and make you think the head is not flat. If they are already clean then just look for dings and scratches like these guys said and maybe still run the scotch brite pad across the decks.
