Is there something specific there to subscribe to, or is just watching the site for updates the best option? I poked around and didn't see anything. Just trying to remove my remembering to check for it out of the equation.
If not I guess I can setup something automated to watch for it. :google:

Go to hotrod.com then click on community...then click on forums...then click on power tour....or subscribe to hot rod magazine and it will be listed in the magazine when the tour dates and schedule is released...do not worry there will be plenty of time...you can either register ahead of time or just show up at the venue and pay your $$ ... nobody gets turned away if they have the $$ to get in...:D

If it ends in Detroit next yr, probably won't be a long hauler. Been to the Detroit area before and Mich. has the worst roads ever! Depends where it starts as to where we will jump in.
The 70 Camaro took a pretty good beating in the very hot temps this year, altho no major issues other than a quick alt. change bec it got tooooooo hot! That had happened before on Pwr Tour back in '07, so we carry a "spare" alt. with us, thank goodness we did!
If we do go on Pwr Tour next yr, considering taking the 02 SS 35thLE, still lots of time to think about it and will wait and see where it goes before deciding yay or nay.

PS You can call Woodward a one day event ... but anyone who has been there recently knows that it starts well before the schedualed day...it is more like a week long deal now days.

Id like to go on one again but so many factors for me and depends on the route
The Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau (DMCVB) invites all you LS1 owners to Southeast Michigan for the conclusion of the 2011 Hot Rod Power Tour (HRPT).
As some of you may recall, the HRPT made a brief stop here in 2009. A great time was had by all at both Metro Beach and at the after-glow event which was hosted by the DMCVB and City of Warren last year. The evening event included a high energy rockabilly jump jive trio, The Twistin Tarantulas, a large inflatable projection screen TV (broadcasting the Red Wings/Pittsburgh Penguins Stanley Cup Finals), along with special parking for local cars and Hot Rod Power Tour participants – not to mention the numerous locations along Van Dyke that were hosting their own cruise nights. No other city in the United States can offer the rich automotive history that we have here in The D – whatever your brand. We encourage you to check out the GM Heritage Center or tour of GM’s Powertrain Performance Build Center in Wixom as well as The Henry Ford (America’s Greatest History Museum), the Ford Rouge Factory Tour (where the F-150 is built,) Walter P. Chrysler Museum, the Packard Proving Grounds and much more.
Southeast Michigan plays host to major car events every month from June until September, including the NASAR Weekends in June/August, Concours D’Elegance of America at Meadow Brook in July and the Woodward Dream Cruise in August, just to name a few. Not to mention all the local cruise nights every day of the week in just about every city and town. Those looking for non-automotive entertainment, you can stay at one of our three casino/hotels in Downtown Detroit - Chip Foose even joined the expansion of the MotorCity Casino-Hotel as a DesignConsultant a few years back. These properties are located close to the Fox Theatre and Comerica Park (home of the Detroit Tigers).
For more information on Automotive Events in The D go to www.Autopalooza.org, Local Attractions & Restaurants www.VisitDetroit.com and 2011 Hot Rod Power Tour Lodging www.familyevents.com
We hope to see a lot of LS1's on the HRPT when it rolls into The D!

You really want traffic to suck worse than usual? HRPT has been to Detroit area too much 2009-near warren at lake Saint Clair and 2001? in Pontiac Guess GM is scared to go to far from home? Really wish they would go to the west coast been too long. Anyway I'll be going next year. Detroit might of put the world on wheels but the roads do suck and I hope we are not in the city!-the city w/o police:punch:
The Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau submitted a request last year to be the destination city for the HRPT and will be paying for its return to Southeast Michigan. I can't speak to whether or not GM has any say in the decision making process of choosing the destination cities, but sponsoring tour (whatever the route) is right on target with their performance brands. In regards to traffic, we encountered a similar traffic light situation in a little town just outside of Bowling Green, KY as we were heading to Chattanooga, TN, so it can happen anywhere - we are just going to try and be a little more proactive next year. We are also trying to set-up some special behind the scene tours for HRPT participants, more to come on this later.
Thank you,
The D-Rod

I emailed the editor of HRM a couple years ago asking why the tour never goes toward the west coast. The response I got was that it was too hard getting cooperation from the local municipalities for such a big event. It's was much easier getting cooperation from places in the east.
I also asked why the tour never comes through Colorado. I was told that the very first tour came through Colorado and the altitude caused all the "carb" guys to have big issues with their A/F, which caused a lot of complaints about the route. That's really too bad because Colorado has some great scenic highways.

I went in 2006 when it was on the east coast, and heard from a couple of the Hot Rod employees that they try to stay in the center of the count to get a larger participation. Most people have a cap of how far they would be willing to drive, and with it on the coast, you limit the amount of willing participants. But put it towards the center of the country, and you pull more participants from both East and West of the tour. We'll see about next year. My Dad just picked up a 2010 Challenger RT and I'm sure he'll want to go again, but I gotta see how things go with the kids and if my wife would be cool staying home for 8-9 days with our 2 and 4 y/o kids.

Really..wow..thats funny I got the same thing responded to but they said the west coast is more cooperative to what they were trying to do. hmmm...

Really? To me it sounds like you alienate most of the East or West Coast. Should be a revolving route going from East middle west..west middle east..east middle west..or something like that. I know the economy crapped out. But before then I hear those same remarks.
I know there are a lot of people that do make it from each coast to the middle. But I know a lot of people I talk to that have ventured on the East Coast tour and some west coast guys..and they all say they would rather stay "local" and run up and down where they can get home in good time. Not spending a day or almost 2 to get out to the start point. I know there are a lot of variables in what I just said but the idea is about the same. A lot of northeast guys are left out..and all say the same thing..why not just do a revolving tour of the country..make everyone happy and you have large areas around the east coast too...so idk..just every time I see this I vent..and only reason why is I loved it. went on 98 and 99 LH and did 1/2 way on 2000. Would of done LH but had to go cali. for vaca..
So hope someone from HR figures this out. It might work better with the economy the way it is..closer or shorter tours might work out better for them :D

Lessons learned last year if I take my 70 again, keep an extra alternator in the trunk with the normal back up supplies and improve the brakes a little more.

The West coast...really? The West coast already gets far too much automotive attention as 90% of television based car shows are filmed on the West coast. Further, the cops out West are the most anal of any in the Country. I hope that the tour never visits the Nazi state of California. Michigan is a great automotive event destination. Although, Texas self appoints itself as having the most bad-ass cars in the Country ("Our state will kick your state's ass"), the Michigan/Ohio area is the true home of the best.

New wheels and tires are at my parents waiting to replace my shot tires and tiny 16s, unfortuneatly the TSP headers and Y-pipe I ordered (first week of May...) are going to take another two or more weeks to get here :( Other than that, she's pretty much all set for the trip.

I couldn't get the Big Block T/A done in time..
so I'm on plan "B"..
It's a '95 Camaro... I did the v-6 to v-8 conversion on last year..
It's only a 12.50 car..but still fun..
I expect to get at least 18 mpg..
my buddy who is going with me volunteered 1/2 of the fuel bill..
so he's happy we are not taking the Big Block..LOL
see y'all down there..or look for us on the way!

I was so set on getting an SLP Ram Air H.O. Hood, but when I went to purchase one a few years ago, SLP had just discontinued producing them. I did a little more research and about a year later I decided on the Raptor Hood.
I think I made the right choice. :D
Hope to see you on the Tour!

I agree, i shouldnt complain. I've been doing it since 99. I've spoiled myself almost every year by having something different that no one else takes, it makes it more fun. But after frying myself last year with no A/C i'll gladly take tinted windows and a/c this year, no possibilities of blowing air bags on air suspension, overheating fuel pumps, and all that jazz

A stock GTO is still a great car just go slap an exhaust on it so it sounds the part or electric exhaust cut outs?

AC hose went out on me and its the big one the goes behind the compressor. The compressor has to come out to get the line out and a new one in. So, now I have a dilemma (sp?)drive with no a.c., take my DD or cancel my HRPT. I know it's going to be hot toward midday thru the afternoons on the tour. How many of you would drive the tour with no AC?

-Registration was a few miles from the event

-Guy on stage spouting off about how anyone who was not a long hauler is crap
-We can see & experience vendors & similar cars locally. No reason to go

The wife and I are home from Power Tour early. Had a great time (except for the freakin' heat!), until yesterday.
Traveling from Indy to Muskegon, we were passing through the small town of Lakeville, IN. A kid in a 98 Camry going the opposite direction on the 4 lane, side swiped a car, spun out of control into on-coming traffic and guess who he hit. Yeah, us. No one was hurt, although my wife is pretty sore today and bruised from the seat belt and airbag, but the car you see in my signature is probably totaled. I have a couple pics that I'll try to get posted later.
Power Tour was awesome, but yesterday was not a good day for us.

Had a blast on the tour, burnouts at all the hotels, racing in mexico on our way to Indy(beat a SRT8 Challenger with long tubes and full exhaust/ intake/ programmer, and a newer GTO that put down 370whp), we got a cop to handcuff one of the guys in our group for pictures, got a cop to try and do a burn out.... great time!! Thanks guys.
I am very concerned how this situation is planning to be handled by State Farm (the At-Fault Driver's Ins. Co.), although I've heard they're very good. The word "Totaled" has been thrown around about a thousand times in the past couple days and I'm already tired of hearing it. I see no reason why I should have to settle for anything less than having my vehicle restored to the condition it was in prior to the accident and am preparing myself to fight for that if I must.

Mumbles,
Glad to hear that you are both ok, that is a bad deal! We were in that town when the fire & rescue went tearing out there & then heard it was someone on the tour. :(
As far as the insurance claim goes, if it is past the total loss threashold, they will not pay to fix it. You may be able to owner retain it & come out ok on the settlement. Start getting your comparable vehicles rounded up, you will need some ammo when settling the claim.
Good luck!

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but at least you walked away from it, that's what matters.
I didn't make it this year, only the 2nd time in 15 or so years. When I started this thread last year I had every intention of going, but maybe next year.
Did they announce where it's starting or ending next year?

Mumbles,
Glad to hear that you are both ok, that is a bad deal!
Good luck!
Jason
Thanks Unstang. Believe me, the clip loaded.
I kinda feel bad for whoever they send to look at the car because they are going to get an ear-full from both myself and my wife.
Its not like we're talking about a fucking Honda Civic or a Dodge Caravan.

ya we saw the driver's side of the stang with mismatched panels. shit happens, sucks it had to tag so many on the tour.
i plan on taking the ta next year, i really don't know how i'd feel if it got totaled. i don't know that i'd be upset, knowing i could buy it back and swap that drivetrain into something different...and much lighter, would make all well as long as no one got hurt.

Power Tour 2011: Got back on Saturday at midnight- just now getting the pics and videos uploaded. The tour started in Cocoa Beach FL and ended in Detroit MI.
Overall it was a good time - except Georgia and Alabama where hot as balls, and well we weren't at the venue very long. Ended up going back to the hotel and swimming/drinking.... lol. Ended up driving about 3,600 miles, consumed around 104 beers, and went thru 15 states.
Highlights of the trip.... Before the trip started - went up to Mt Mitchell, NC. Its the highest peak on the eastern seaboard, and its about 2 hrs from Charlotte. Alabama and Georgia have crap freeways - lets say big bumps don't agree with my car... more on that later. Michigan actually had decent interstate - but the local roads where terrible. Ended up staying in 4 hotels... not bad for an 8 day road trip. Spent the rest with friends and family. We stopped at the Jim Beam distillery in Kentucky - lets say the tasting of 128 proof whiskey when its 95* outside is not recommended - it burned all the way down, lol. We also stopped at the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit - unfortunately there car display is in pieces and currently being rebuilt, but they had an awesome Civil War display with tons of documents on loan from the National Archives - learned some stories about the Civil War and spent nearly 2 hrs in that display alone. Also the end of the Power Tour was the best. We went to the GM Proving Grounds in Milford, and on the way out got to hit some of the test courses. There was a huge straightaway that I got up to 125 mph on, and there was a bit of a road course as well. It really was a great way to end the trip.
GM Proving Grounds vid:
CrBw9bamjJ0
The straight-a-way is about 8 mins in - Road course is about 15 mins in. I think the GoPro has a lot better sound - its not whistling anymore. I googled out some ways to solve that, and swapping out the water proof case for the one with holes in it made it sound 70% better.

Tour was blast, almost had to call it quits early though, broke my TB on the track at valdosta, and had to limp to Lake city with fingers crossed hoping a used TB would fix me, caught a break there...
Lots of terrifying things on the trip too though, shortly after fixing the TB, we watched a guy on a bicycle get hit by a car. Poor fella went flying, however he did get up himself and moved to side of the road, bloodied, but conscious and able to walk. Seen the mustang half way up the hill between Indy and Muskegon, tried to figure out how he got that far up. Then leaving the Metropark, watched and tried to get an old man's attention that he was going down a one way street (silly large medians with turn-arounds in MI) before he managed to swerve, and avoid a head on collision, but still ended up getting t-boned. Then cruising home through the hills of Kentucky on I75, saw a couple of cars pulled off on the side, and some guy laying down on the shoulder....
Rest of it was great, just wish the TB hadnt made me so damned gun shy for the rest of the trip

That really sucks! Very sorry to hear! We saw your car on the rollback  Glad everyone was OK though.
Hopefully insurance will treat you right. I've had 2 cars totaled by other stupid drivers and it worked out in my favor both times. I know you love your car, but you're better off with it being totaled and finding another than getting that one fixed! It probably would never be the same.
Good luck.

Thanks for the kind words and the advice.
I know these cars will never be like the MOPAR's that are going for six figures, but at the same time, we're not exactly talking about a Chevy Cavalier either. The cars we have are future classic cars.
There were 1602 Firebird Formulas produced in 1999. I'm not about to let my 53k mile specimen go to be picked apart at a Boneyard without a fight.
Am I being sentimental? Sure. But I've yet to find anyone I've spoken with think that I'm being unreasonable to want my property repaired due to an accident that wasn't my fault. I find it hard to believe I have to fight for this at all. The entire situation is ridiculous.
*My apologies to the members who are using this thread as it is intended. My posts here have strayed from the original topic and I am sorry. This situation has me frustrated. Don't worry about it. This thread was for the sole purpose of finding out who all was going on Power Tour, now that the tour is over it's, more of a" what happened on Power Tour" thread. I check this thread from time to time to see what I missed, and well, this is what happened so it's relevant. Good luck with getting your car repaired and hopefully if next year will be better.

I as usual had a great time on the Power Tour. After eight in a row I guess you could say that I am a addict. Only got to run part of it this year due to other commitments. But had a great time and met some more great people. I have more fun on the Power Tour than at all the other car events put together for the whole year. The quality and variety of the cars and people make it the unique event that it is. I have met a lot of good people over the years and see many of them year after year. That is what keeps me coming back. People who complain about the heat or the length of the drive need not attend. The Tour is "THE TOUR" and it is not for everyone. But I feel fortunate that it works so well for me. Tour till it hurts!! See ya next year!!

Good time meeting some of you guys for the first time. We did the long haul in the white "Pace car" camaro that was in the Nitto booth. Fantastic trip overall! Really looking forward to next year but trying to decide what we are taking. SS has made 2 tours now. Windshield doesn't have any more room for the "long hauler" stickers!
Sorry for the troubles with the 99 Formula! We were stopped at a gas station and you had to pass us to have that accident. We saw it as we drove past (cops already on the scene). VERY unfortunate incident. Sadly I am sure that car is totaled and unfortunately insurance will always fight to give as little as possible. Good luck with your fight but I fear it will be a low paying result :(
We had some minor incidents on our trip. Only one really of note was a semi's trailer have a blow out about 4 cars in front of us and me basically center punching the tire. Marked the bumper and broke the lower grille but overall nothing TOO major. Marks came off and grille is barely noticeable.

I haven't come to a settlement with the Insurance Co. yet (the At-Fault Driver's is being a little bitch, as expected), but I did make a decision on whether or not to restore my 99 Formula or to purchase a different car. And since I don't want to part with a car I've had & loved for more than 7 years and I also don't want to go without having one of these cars to play with, decided I would do BOTH...
My Black car in my signature is repairable, but its going to take alot of time, money and effort, so in the mean time I purchased this car to tide me over and to use as a reference to help me put my 99 back together.

Its a 2000 Pontiac Firebird Formula WS6 that I purchased from a fellow Tech Member. Navy Blue Metallic, with Black Leather Interior, 47k Miles, 6 Speed, and virtually stock aside from an Aftermarket Y-pipe, LM2 Catback, and TTI Exhaust Tips.
This is the car you'll see me in on the 2012 HRPT. :usa:

Formulas, not ugly T/As, get it right! Haha, nice pick up on the new car! Navy blue is a good color, not as good as black :D, but still nice. If this winter is anything like lasts you will have more than enough time to get your old one running haha.
Hopefully trading up to a Z06(or going to the dark side and getting a Terminator) for next years Power Tour. As much as I love my car it would take far to much money to get it to the level of either of those for what they are going for, and after spending all that money it'd still be worth only half as much.

The man is correct. I won't have a pair of T/A's. I will have not one, not two, but THREE Firebird Formula's at my disposal once the Black car is repaired.

Thanks, man. You're absolutely right. NBM is a beautiful color (my wife likes it a lot), but its definitely not Black.

God I wish I could get it restored that quickly, but I don't believe my 1999 will be back on the road by the end of this coming Winter. Too many other financial obligations presently. Maybe in a couple years, if all goes well. I am gonna need a newer pickup (daily driver) some time in the near future, so that may delay repairs, as well. I promise though, it will be done.

I've always loved the look of the C5 Z06, much better looking than the base C6s. Plus all that power and ~3000lbs is a hard package to beat. The main reason I'm even thinking about the Mustang is the crazy amount of power those are making :D They do need it to haul their fat asses around, but 8-900whp would get that job done without a problem.

IDK, we were disapointed last year. Detroit pretty much sucked. Went all the way there w/ 5 cars, Hotel costs...etc. & there was no cruise. Power Tour rep said they lost thier sponsor for the cruise. Don't know why we needed a sponsor, but, we were not thrilled about it. Also, got tired of the jack a$$ on the stage spoutin' off about how "Long Haulers" ruled & the rest of us sucked.
