Default Is this the driveshaft, does this look normal? idk...

Hello, well I recently purchased my first ls1. Its a 99 ss 6 speed. Today i pulled out the middle console to install my new mgw shifter along with a new rubber boot and shift ****. While in the open I noticed something that seems strange to me between the shifter assembly and the opening leading to the ground. It just looks awkward to me. First of all is this the driveshaft im looking at? seems to show signs of turning for a good 1"-2" in length? Like if it were moving forward and back? Normal? Any input would greatly be appreciated. Thanks! still in the process of learning...
