Default new times in ls3 H/I on 408

hey guys went to the track last week and got some seat time for the first time this year(FINALLY)

1st pass --- 2nd pass ---- 3rd pass ---- 4th pass

the MPH seems a little off to me but the heads werent milled, running .051 gaskets and have a -12cc piston these runs were done with full interior, half tank of gas, 15" prostars on the rear with 275/60/15 et street radials and the fronts are heavy *** TTII's 17x9.5.
tire pressure was at 17 and the track temp was about 85*+ with humidity at 35% all in all im very happy with this set-up and it runs hard up top(even though mph doesnt show it) but its a definate improvement over the hand ported 853 and stock ls6 intake and tb. were gonna put the wideband back in it next weekend and make some final tuning adjustments and maybe run my 26" tall et streets and see where that takes us, let me know what you guys think... also went this past friday for the street racing program and the track wasnt prepped as well as it is on saturdays but it went 11.72@115 with a 1.68 60' so it should have some left in it still

I think the times/mph/rwhp are all off. Doesn't jive for a LS3/408. Get your tune checked...that should be low 11's/high tens!

As it is now even with high 11's which is slow as hell for your mods (NO pun intended); the MPH is still low.

thats what we were thinking too but this past winter our timing system was vandelized but was told it was all calibrated the week before opening day and there are some guys out there(locals) that didnt change a thing from last year and they ran dead on what they ran last year

i dont think it has anything to do with the tune for the fact that it was tuned on a wideband by nitroused383 on here and ive seen what his car put on the dyno in person and i believe in his tune, not doggin your advice in any way just dont think its the tune, however its never been on the wideband at the track just on the street

the only thing i can think of the the MPH being low is the low compression, there 821 casting untouched unmilled heads, with a .051 compressed HG, and the pistons are a -12cc dish. with the math that ive done on a couple of different online calculators it ranges from 9.7-9.9 compression.

all this does seem a little wierd but another thing about our track is that 2 of my buddies on here (nitroused383, 2002blkta) both have cars that are modded, 383 has a 444rwhp sd tuned ls1 and runs 115 also and blkta has a
04 gto that has trex,ported heads, and procharded running 9 psi and trapped 115, so were kinda thinkin the track might be suspect

I know it's not the tune we've played with fuel and timing and it showed no gain at the track. 27-31 degrees of timing and we've tried 13 to 12.5 afr. Keep in mind our track is slow as ***** also at 2200' elevation with shitty pacific northwest air. Barometric pressure around 94 kpa at the track. Also his raceweight has got to be 3900 + lbs. Th-400, 12 bolt, crushed slp headers with a restrictive y pipe, low compression, no underdrive and who knows if the converter is right for the car all things that could be hurting the setup.

To run 11's N/A at our track is impressive, you cannot compare times of other people off the net as they live in different locations. We were hoping it would run low 11's @ 120 + mph. Disconnect that front sway bar like I've been saying and it will help! Does anyone have any experience with hughes converters and th-400's? We are getting about 8% converter slippage on the top end. If anyone has an hints / tips of what to look for we'd appreciate it.

Man SOMETHING is definitely off with that car. We have worse air conditions than you guys and have full weight cam-only cars running that fast. One of the cars I tuned last month went 11.80's at 117mph in 2800ft DA with just a 236/238 cam, ls6 intake, ss4000 stall and a 9" w/4.11s. What gear/converter do you have in the car? I'd think your 60' should be better unless the track is a joke. Hope ya figure it out!

Sounds like it could be the track equipment yielding false data. If other cars are getting low than expected results based on other tracks then there is your answer.

What is the DA of the track?

buy some tsp 1 7/8" and a ud pulley, also do you have a ram air on the car? buy a chris1313 ram air and gain 2-3 mph and idk what the LT's and ud pulley will add but def worth the 700-800$

Even if we had the best air in the world we are still sitting at 2200' elevation and will never see map readings above 94 kpa. When I went from a map reading of 90 kpa to 94 kpa I gained 25 rwhp. DA is one thing but the elevation really kills the power around here. Most stock LS1's run high 13 low 14's from 102-104 mph. I really think something is off with the converter or trans. The converter is just some hughes 3500 out of summit, far from a yank converter.

thats what we were thinking too but a buddy of mine didnt change anything from last year and he is running dead nuts on what he ran last year so i think the track is calibrated even after the vadalization this past winter

your telling me we've had this motor for 5 years and we've been fightin this track to get into the 11's this is the first year weve EVER been in the 11s with this motor with the old heads and 6 speed and old clocks it would run 12.0@117 and you could set your watch to it.

there is no ram air on the car it is an ss(if you wanna call that a ram air) but no there isnt a aftermarket ram air set up on it. ya i know the thing that hurts on these heads is the exhaust side and the slps are hurting alot this winter is when i plan on redoing the whole exhaust system

if there is its nothing to do with the mechanical of the motor itself, if there is something wrong then its the combination of parts ie headers, exhaust, tq converter etc.etc... but i dont think its an internal problem doesnt miss, plugs look like they should etc etc keep the ideas comin guys thanks for all the replys

You have way to many good parts and spent way too much $$ to be running those times. Your down probably a 100hp from where you should be. You need a reality check to get the full potential... You either have something seriously wrong mechanically (timing off a tooth) or the car's tune is way off. Spend a little more and take the car to a "real" tuner/shop and have the car looked at.

No offense but... you and your tuner are just coming up with excuses as to why it's slow. People have given you suggestions and you and the tuner are saying that can't be it. Take it to someone that has a lot of experience and they will find the problems. Before you keep sinking a ton of cash into it on getting the "right combination" A lot of people with similar setups run A LOT faster than you. Unless those SLPs are crushed closed then that is not it.

I agree something is off and we are looking for suggestions. We have a local 03 cobra mustang that runs 18 psi on a whipple that put down 630 rwhp. He runs 11.4s @ 124 mph. It's not really slow compared to other cars at our track but it should be going atleast 5 mph more in my opinion. I highly doubt a 480 rwhp 408 is going to run 124 mph at our track but what do I know. Anyone car tune a car at wide open throttle, control afr and run timing in the right area whats so difficult about that? From the other tunes I've seen from the so called "best tuners in WA" they are a joke.

were not comin up with excuses were just sayin what we have looked at when it comes down to it the car weighs right in the neighborhood of 4k plus its only 9.7.1 compression, on top of all of it i really dont think its the tuner in any way shape or form, if you do a little research on 383 his car puts down awesome power and hes the one that tuned it. and on top of that the guy locally around here that does tune said that hes a pretty awesome tuner. the only thing we havent done was put the wideband on the car at the track.

So what kindof numbers does it put down?? From ur sig it says 438 threw an m6 with cutouts open? What all have you change from then besides swapping to the th400. That seem really low. Not trying to start any thing but my stock bottom end ls1, ported unmilled ls6 heads, and baby 224 cam, put down 425 on a mustang dyno threw a built 4L60E.

Just seems low to me, even with 9.7 compression. I think ur converter is fine, but im no expert, but 1.60 seems fine to me especially if ur car does really weigh 4k. Need to get 500lbs outta that bitch...

Either way I feel ur pain, im also at a track thats hard to get good numbers on. Stock ls1 fbodys run 14.0s here as well.
