Default Cost to fix valve body on 4l80e transgo st3

Okay I have a 4l80e that was built by a local transmission builder and I have been getting the run around by him. He doesn't return my calls rarely answers and has stalled me having the transmission fixed for the last 3+ weeks.

Its a stage 3 transgo kit with the good clutches, billet input shaft, etc.

The valve body is scewed up and has low line pressure and seems to downshift and skip a gear. Vacume regulator doens't seem to do anything either.

What would it cost to fix the transmission?

It's hard to say.
The TG kit shouldn't cause low line, so the builder may have made a mistake internally in the pump or elsewhere.

There are some small issues with the TG-3 kit I've seen.
No WOT 1-2 shift when hot and a delayed 2-3 shift.
I solved those before I quit using the TG-3 kit.

If you are totally skipping a gear, I think you may have bigger issues.
What gear?

Describe the symptoms more.

If you walked into my shop with it, I would want to remove the VB and air check it, remove the PR lineup and inspect it, and then start over on the VB, but there would be no guarantee that it would work unless I did a complete teardown.

I made another post about it but.
1.) transmission from initial build had 120 gear line pressure vacuum didn't work
2.) he fixed it only to find out 100 miles later the car when slightly hot and while in 2nd gear would automatically downshift into 1st gear then as you lift would pop back in second gear
3.) upon discovered the car auto downshifting i hooked pressure gauge up again to discover the line pressure is low once again.
4.) transmission is also making lots of funky noises while driving around otherwise seems fine at times in 3rd gear 80psi line pressure

Vacuum line connected or disconnected makes no difference in line pressure. Thank you for your info. How much would your shop charge for this?

If it's making weird noises I would probably suggest a full rebuild.

I'm not a sponsor of the forum so I won't quote any prices.

I will say this,
many otherwise good transmission shops simply cannot do performance work. There is actually quite a bit of difference in what a performance transmission shop does and what your run of the mill rebuilder does.

Some transmissions are forgiving and the regular builder can "get by" or might even be savvy enough to know some tricks or what parts to use. He may not know WHY a certain shift kit works, but he know's it does and uses it, and it works.

Others will eat your lunch.
The TransGo -3 kit is a fairly complex kit and it's easy to F up.

I would be prepared to start from scratch. Something is not right in the pump, the vacuum modulator setup, or both.

Hi There,

Sounds a lot like the box that i got given , same shop?

I personally think that the Transgo 3 kits are rubbish . . .

Have a read of my experience if you like, in the link below

All brands mentioned where never used again in the rebuild, and this time my local shop re-assembled the Auto and did a proper shop.

I basically paid $4000 twice cause the original shops involved did not come to the party !

I wish this info was around for me to read before i handed over my money

Rolemodel,

Where are you located?

If you like you can take a drive in my car to see if you have the same issue.

I am outside Portland
