Default AC compressors interechangable between vettes and fbodys?

Hey guys,

I'm in a bind right now. Grandfather just passed away and I need to get my car running for family gatherings this week so I don't have to drive my work van. I posted something about this in the ls1/ls6 internal, and it got moved to general maintanance with no hits.

4 days ago, my ac stopped blowing cold air, then about 2 minutes later, I had a burning smell. I pulled over at my grandparents, and popped the hood. The car was smoking and it looked like It was coming from AC compressor, which I am guessing is just the belt burning from the compressor stopping???

Are all ls1/ls6 vette or fbody compressors interchangable? Can I just cut the belt to the AC compressor, or is it attached to the crank or anything else? I would like to have my shop fix it later, but I can live without AC if I can just fix the burning smell and smoking. Thanks

Mark

I'm pretty sure the C5 compressor has a different mounting pad than the f-body compressors. Should be able to remove the belt to the A/C compressor for now.

tensioner that belt off, no need to cut it if you can live without a/c

Mike, I talked to Robert about fixing my cutouts on Monday(locked open, doesn't look like it is the motor). Shoot me a PM for the install, if you don't mind. I'll head your way on Monday, if you guys have the time/space. I can't get there any earlier so I'll drive the van for now.

Thanks Nineball for the diagram. I actually googled that and could not find it.

Stick to the C5 compressor, they handle RPMs MUCH better than the POS f-body units.
