jay at www.3rdgendecals.com sold me some cool stripes for my car.

BUT one of the stripes was shorter from the other. So I emailed jay with the story.

Since Jay doesnt have a lot of pictures of some installed samples on his website, I told him that Ill send him some. When I told him that one stripe was shorter than the other HE ASKED ME if i can send him a few pics and HE SAID THAT he will be willing to work with me by either giving me one stripe for free or just selling one (although I preffered it for free since i didnt do anything wrong with it). I wanted him to keep replying on my emails so I purposely sent him pics of the stripes ZOOMED in so he can see that there was a CLEAR mistake. I intended on sending him the good pictures once he'd decide working with me.

Guess what he did from there on? he noticed that the pictures I sent him were not good enough to be posted on his website (since they clearly showed that they were not done right) so he decided to ignore all my incoming emails.

I was EXTREMELY upset, which made me be a VERY UNSATISFIED customer.

Plus he took a LONNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGG time to send the stripes in. I think he had them rolled up in the container for AT LEAST a week (since it took him about 2 weeks for him to deliver them ... ahem... i dont know how that would happen under priority mail... would it ? ahem <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> ) .

ALSO By the time I got the stripes in they had ripples on them and they still show everytime i wash my car. The ripples are from the ink NOT the installation.

Keep in mind that you could go through all of that if you want to buy stuff from him. Dont get me wrong, I love the stripes, BUT they were damaged and not in proportion to each other. All I asked for was some quick help and got no answer thats what stirred me up in writing all this...

Dont look at the pics on his website. They can be VERYYYYYYYYY different in real life.

I never had any problems with Jay. I do know people that have had wrinkles in their stripes from him though.
I screwed up on installing my first one from him and he gave me a good discount on a new one. I thought he was pretty fair with me. I thought he had great prices too.

i also ordered stripes for my z from jay...i had some problems with the installation...my fault...but jay worked with me...i would recommend him

i had very good customer service with jay. hes a 1st class guy and his business is the same way. i highly recomend him.

hmmm from all the posts im reading sounds like theres something wrong here...

I sent him these photos. Take a look under the album "hood stripes" on the bottom link.

The stripe was not made right and you can easily tell. Why should I pay for his mistakes? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> Im not trying to be a jerk here but whats the point of buying another stripe when it was made wrong? I dont feel its right to buy another stripe for something like this dont you think?

I wouldn't like it either. He should rectify the situation somehow. If not to make right by you, at least to make a better product. Have you been being professional about it yourself? i.e. not flying off the handle? If so, perhaps you should suggest something that will provide him with an incentive. Maybe offer to publicly show off the revised decals he provides as a way to advertise for him as well as show the public how he provides good service in exchange for making it right with you. Otherwise, he may not be too motivated to fix it. There needs to be something in it for both parties in order to rectify a dispute like this.

Well it's me, THE BAD GUY. So glad to hang dirty laundry out, but I guess you play the hand you're dealt. First off I am sorry I didn't respond to your earlier email. Here is God's truth about your graphic situation. Since your graphic is too big to be made in one piece, it is made in three groups of checkers. You have to place each set of checkers with its points just touching its neighbor's points. Look at the pic you sent me (below) and notice the gaps between the points. They are not applied evenly, as evidenced by the front which is not even close to parallel with the front of the tunnel.

Those graphics are made by a computer. One is not shorter than the other. They are within a few thousandths of an inch of one another in size. It's not like I cut them by hand from some pattern. (Call me names, but don't disparage my plotter, she's too expensive.)

I'm sorry I didn't have time to properly respond to you. I am answering 20 emails a day and showing you what had gone wrong with your install was going to be another photoshop project and I put it on the back burner. Sorry.

Anyway let's make peace. Email me again and I will sell you another piece cheap. But don't tell me it's my fault and then send me pics that show it's not. I mean geez...

Here is an example of the proper install. There are to be no gaps anywhere except in the front of course. The vector file is perfect but the installer must (must) get the placement right. I have a different kit (the blue one) that gets applied in one piece if you think it's too much work.

I have had a lot of people get third party installation and of course a percentage have had trouble. Your local sign shop that also does vehicle graphics is a great place to get an install. That's where I got in the business, and all you do is lay vinyl all day long. Big signs, small signs, semi tractors, vans, ricer cars, you name it, they can vinyl it. I'm not at all down on body shops, because the individual doing your work is much more important than the business at which you found them. But if you're going fishing for someone, go to the sign shop first and ask them how they apply the vinyl. (act dumb) If they don't start describing a wet application, thank them for their time and leave. Vinyl is easy to ruin and I hate to see people get disappointed after they shelled out good money. And I really hate it when they come out to trash me on the forums. (You know who you are. <grin>)

man the last thing i would want to do is trash. But you must admit that I was forced to since I got no repliers from the seller. Ill try to get another stripe from you in the future as it will be a waste of money right now.

The reason the person spaced them out was because if he didnt then one stripe will be way shorter towards the nostril? Thats why I took 2 pictures so that you could compare both... making a space simply made them equal (Thats what everyone noticed?).

You know what, forget all that... Ill get some stripes from you in the future. Hopefully by then you'll have some for the sides of the car so I could buy both of them together... maybe for a discount as well <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> YEAH RIGHT... not after all the trash talk LOL <img border="0" alt="[jester]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" />

No trouble, you will still get it cheap, even if you want to change to the other hood with the one-piece strips. At least you know I'll remember your name when you email. <grin>
