Default Where is the d@#% code?

I have been searching and searching for a thread that tells where the engine code is located on these LS engine. I have found everything but what I am looking form.

Back in the day, the engines were all stamped on the engine block cylinder deck in front of one of the heads. Is that true of the ls motors too? If not, how do I identify the exact year and model motor?

Look at the back of the block at the dr side. Should be an etched # there, and on the trans. [auto, anyway]
Also, look at the vertical pad behind the oil filter area. Laser etched there, too.
Displacement may be found cast in the dr side, ft of the block...
