10 Second Club - Hoping to jump to low 10's Help me think of what I haven't thought of yet

An old saying I live by
A fool never learns from his mistakes
A smart man does
But a WISE man learns from others.
So I've come to pick your brains:secret2:
I'm popping the TA out of its time capsule this year and I'm hoping for some very bottom 10's. However, my fastest run to date has been a 11.19@122ish N/A run with a 1.51 60' time (pre-professional tune). Just enough for about 2" of air.
I know the car has the capability to run a 10.9xx second run N/A.
And I have the dual stage N2O kit ready for up to 200hp more.
Basic rundown of my car:
*~3550 Raceweight
*LS2 402, 500hp/450tq
*FLT 4L65E trans, TCI3800 stall (fairly tight converter), Strange 12 bolt w/3.73's
*BMR suspension in front, Spohn/BMR in rear, QA1's (single adj.) all around
*Safety equipment for 10.000's only lol
Some things I know I have to plan for:
*Screwing the ET Drags to the Bogarts
*Getting REALLY good at reading spark plugs
*Praying that when the front end comes back down, I'm still facing forward
I haven't sprayed the car since I wore out the original shortblock in 2005, so nitrous launches are gonna take some getting used to again. Hopefully the Strange 12 bolt posi is up to it. But I'd still like to get a little more knowledge now before something scares the hell out of me later. I've been searching every topic I can think of for the last 7 nights now, my brain hurts lol.
What are some of the things you all ran into that you weren't expecting?
Looseness? Oil Starvation? Smoke? Euphoria? High fiving God?
How much horsepower do you figure you using off the starting line?
How high are you lifting?
Will ya help a brother out:drive:

As long as it hooks it should have no problem going 9s IMO :) I assume your running a 28" tire? If not you may want at least a 27" so your not shifting into OD before the stripe. My H/C car has the same goals as yours and mine weighs more ;) we should go out to the track together.

Hey man, long time no see!
I just want one 9.9xx slip to laminate for the photo album lol
Bottom 10's is where I really plan to stay, it's still comfortably streetable there.
I'm on 26" ET Drags now, but with 3.73's I'm hoping I can extend shifts enough, we'll see. Maybe I'll have to consider a 27" MT. That's one of my reasons for not doing a TH400, seems like people are always talking about crossing the traps banging off the rev limiter...
Based on hp/torque curve N/A, I peak in hp at 6300, and torque is high and flat from 4600 past 6200. Haven't put it on a dyno with the spray yet. Still doing final checkouts on the system since it's sat unused for 3+ years.
After the motor got tuned and the trans tables got tweaked, the car never shifted right. It's been down there 2x now, and sat a month each time. And it only seems to get tuned on the day I come to pick it up, so I think I'm done there. Exploring other options now.

I stoped having Sean work on my car a couple years ago and all the sudden my car ran much better and went way faster. I was never happy with his work. If your interested I know someone that can get you straightened out send me a pm.

It usually doesn't take as long as this for that comment to fly lol
I actually haven't had it on since probably 2005, but I keep it around for fun. It'll eventually go back on, just to give internet guys something to poke at :D

You are probably going to have to shift pretty high on a 200 to keep it out of OD. Also, that converter will loosen up a lot on that big of a hit. 28" tire will kill some rpm.

Yeah, I guess I'll have to figure that one out as I datalog to see if I can pull it off or not. Would be nice if I could 100% guarantee I'd remember every time to shut off the spray at the top of 3rd, but that'll never happen.

Hiya Paul,
Long time no talk. Glad to see that you finally got the car back out. Good luck with your goals. I went into the 10s a couple of times over the last 3 years but just barely. Not bad for a stock short block heads/cam combo.
E-mail me when you get ready to take that beast to the track. Maybe I can come up and hang out.

Hey Al, how's it going! I got out there last Wendsday and thought of you. Man the weather was nice! I pulled the tires on the launch on all 4 launches, but still couldn't come close to my 1.51 60' yet. Just need a little more time.
Had more trans/tune issues. Tranny kept shifting at 5k, and jumped into 4th and locked the TCC.... After 4 runs, I fried my PCM constantly re-flashing..... I have an idea what it might have been though. I'd heard if the throttle position voltage is over 4.75V, it'll make the tranny shift really conservatively.
Now I'm waiting for a rebuilt one from Autozone.
Here's one vid, you can hear the 4th gear and TCC lockup at 1/2 track.

If youhave a fast 90mm tb, make sure the cable is in the bottom hole. I had teh same issue of shifting at 5000 rpm and here I had teh cable in the wrong hole and was only opening the blade 2/3 of the way...

Mine's the Scoggin Dickey 90mm TB.
I know the 97-98 TB cams were a different diameter than the 99+ models. I got the right one when I ordered. I checked the TB's operation, it's going full open, I just need to check the voltage now. It only shows 96% open at best on HP Tuners.

Get a better converter. The TCI 3800 hits hard out of the hole but is not efficient up top. I ran the same converter when I first built my 402 and immediately switched to a Yank PT4000 then settled on a Circle D 5C. I'm at 3,560 raceweight and ran the ET in my sig on 16" DR's with the Circle D converter and FLT Level IV 4L60E.

Hitting this or any 4L60 type trans with 500rwhp plus a 200 shot worries me. And with all the tuning issues I've had, I'm seriously looking at just running this trans til the end of the season and installing a 4L80 and TCI trans controller. I'm not going to order a new converter yet simply because I'm not 100% certain what trans I'll have in a few months. I need more time to research what I'm gonna do and how it's gonna affect my setup with things like a larger tire, being able to lock the TCC to stay out of 4th, or a lower 1st gear ratio... Once I figure it out, I'll likely give them a call with the hp/tq specs and see what they recommend.

Damn, TPS voltage was only at 4.25V at full throttle, time to go a different route. I think I'm gonna install a TCI trans controller and start a 4L80E build next week. Hopefully I'll have it ready to beat on by the end of season. At least I can still drive it until then.
