Default scuffing/rub after timing chain change

hey guys brand new guy here at the forum, finally got back into the game after a while, had 97 ws6, 98 camaro ss, now back to the lt1 with a 96 impala ss. anyway had changed the opti with delphi unit, cardone rebuild water pump, cloyes single chain and new seals in the timing cover. my problem is now there is a scuffing rubbing sound coming from the front now! i pulled the pump and removed the water pump drive shaft and reinstalled pump, not as loun but still there, going back into the timing cover and look for rubs but its not a double so shouldnt have any clearance probs. when it was all together you can really feel the grinding on the pump, a little on the opti. during install the opti popped in fine, fasteners didnt pull the opti down. anyone with this issue? thnx guys, glad to be back into it!!

Did you make sure the crank gear was fully seated?

Made sure it was, used the old gear and a socket to drive it on, same amount of key stock was showing. Going to pull it all back apart again. Is it possible to push that sprocket to far?

No, the crank has a shoulder that the gear will seat against.
