power steering pump question

power steering pump question im doign a LY6 in a 79 C10. I have beem reading and have npticed a few people saying something about the pressure from the stock 2008 power steering pump being too much for a older model steering box. Is this true? if so, how do i do to correct it.

or swap to an older pump? maybe easier.
i've not heard anything about the 08 pumps. I have used many a 5.3/6.0 pumps in older vehicles. My 67 C10 currently has a 1981 steering box in it, and works great with 02 or 03 pump from a 5.3L vortec. I've had 8100 in there too and it worked fine.

that helps, my next question is what type of fittings and line did you use to plumb it? And my pump has 3 outlets on it, one is high pressure line, another one goes to the cooler, and i dont know where the other one goes, so im confused about how to hook it up. its from a 2008 2500HD

you should have one o-ring type outlet fitting. This is high pressure. There could be two returns maybe? Return from power steering box, and another maybe from a hydroboost or something? Usually cooler is after the box, inline between box and pump.
as for fitting for lines...this is what I have done, and works great.
1981 box uses compression flair fitting.
2003 5.3L pump uses o-ring fitting.
The part that the line screws into on back of the pump, will its self, come out of the pump. It has an o-ring around out side of that. Under that is a spring and maybe a valve if i remember right. Keep the valve/spring with the pump, and swap the large part that the line goes into, with an older pump.
I have a few times done this without any issues. i did it with my 1962 Impala's STOCK power steering pump, and put that fitting in the back of a 1995 LT1 power steering pump. I also did it with the older compression flair fitting from a 70's pump, and put it into a 2003 pump.
You then use the STOCK power steering line for the older pickup.

here is a pic of my pump. the high pressure line is coming from where that blue cap is. i dont know what the other 2 are, i know one is a return but i dont know which one. maybe i could cap one of them?

The piece with the blue cap can be swapped with the original one so the stock lines will fit. If you use the old spring and valve that are inside, the pressure will be just as stock. One of the other two lines can be capped.
