Default How do you get the centre air vents out?

Hi,

Silly question but I don't have a parts book etc... I have to change the centre air vent in the dashboard of my TA, do I have to dismantle a lot of the dash, or does it unclip in some way?

Doesn't matter if it gets destroyed because it's broken already, I have a new one coming...

thanks,

Dermot.

Your talking one of the three air vents on the dash above the radio i assume.

Get a a "small" flat head head screw driver and very carfully slide between the plastic bezel and the softer dash part working around the edge pulling it out slowly. If the vent is toast and you can get your fingers to the backside of the bezel its easy to push them out. the key is work slow as the bezel is pretty britle.

The bezel has little spike like things that hold it from sliding in and out its hard to explain, just go slow.

Great!

Thanks, yes it's one of those and it's buggered, I was hoping that it could be done like that, needed the reassurance that it was possible

Thanks again,

Dermot.

glad i could help i had to replace mine last summer when I decided to punch the vent because the A/C didn't work... It didn't fix the A/C but instead busted the vent.

As you're replacing a broken vent just keep breaking it carefully until it's all out. The outside ring has fishook like tabs on it. You can easily press it in but it'll resist removal.

After you've broken it out, check to see if any bits fell into the ducting.

Press the new one in straight, you'll only have one shot at it.

BTW dermot, I suppose we're all assuming you're talking about a 4th gen. Put your year and model in your signature.

Hi,

Yesss we are... , a 2000 Firebird T/A manual blah blah. The interesting bit is that it, like me, is in Dubai, UAE (unfortunately, because it's impossible to get any damn parts). I'll tweak the signature a bit..
