Convertible Vehicles - How rare are the 6 speed convertibles???

When I was looking a few months ago, it seems like every single convertible I ran across was an automatic. I finally found my 1998 Z28, 6 speed in really nice shape for a good price($7800).
Post up if you have a six speed drop top. I'm thinking only about 1/4 or less of the drop tops had the manual trans.

You can check the link in my sig for the numbers, but generally the ratio of M6 'verts to A4 'verts ranges from ~ 1:4 to 1:2 depending on year. I encountered a similar problem searching for my 1st 4th gen 'vert w/ M6 ('94 Z28), but persistence and patience pays off. They are out there.

Fellow gear smasher here. I actually stumbled across my 6-speed convertible when I was looking for a 6-speed T-Top car. I test drove it and fell in love with it. T-Tops are great, but nothing like a convertible. :drive:

I was looking for a 6 speed convertible for months before I found the right one.
They are harder to find in virgin condition, but they are still out there.

That's exactly what happened to me. I couldn't find a clean low mile t-top car with a 6 speed so I got a vert. Nothing like a vert on summer evenings!:D

That's funny, I was looking for a hardtop/t-top car, then I found the convertible that I wanted for a good price. It had the two options that were mandatory: white paint and T-56 manual.

Yeah man I looked forever and almost considered buying a Mustang because I wanted a straight shift convertible and then I found my current Camaro. Its a blast banging gears in a vert especially after the cam swap!

Only 799 ws6 convertibles out there in 2001 and I would think that less than 50% are manuals.I know mine is one of 85 navy blue metallic WS6 verts,no breakdown on manuals vs autos.

Found mine in the normal dream come true. Some old guy trying to get rid of it after his grandson messed up the front left corner. He had it fixed and it sat for 2 years. 48000 miles on it, got it for 6800. Saved so much money buying the car I had plenty for some upgrades and its been love ever since.

You are close but here are some 2001 numbers from High Performance Pontiac magazine (JAN 2002). 796 WS6 convertibles produced with 280 being 6 speeds.
There were also 396 regular Trans Am convertibles built in 2001 with only 81 being 6 speeds. Some really low production numbers.

You are right ,I was mistaken with my numbers.According to andrea at ASC there were 779 ws6 convertibles made,280 six speeds and 516 autos. Regular ta convertibles were 81 6 speeds and 315 autos. Andrea worked at asc which did the ws6 conversions for gm. These numbers are for the 2001 models only. Color breakdowns for ws6 verts are as follows, white 76 verts, pewter 129 verts, navy blue metallic 85 verts, black 260 verts, sunset orange metallic 37 verts, red 192 verts. These numbers are from ls1.com from july and october of 2001.

Same here. I was looking for a NBM 6-speed 'bird with tan interior, but it had to be stock and unmolested, and reasonably low miles. It just happened that the first one I found (that didn't have a Barret-Jackson pricetag) was a convertible. I never even thought about getting a convertible, but now I'm hooked!

I've got a stock z28 6-speed ragtop and love it. I've made only minor changes like cat back, subframe connectors, lid and removed the 1st - 4th shift (I forget what that's called).

I have a vert m6. My family was looking for a trailblazer for my sister at the dealer when I stumbled on it. Just brought in the same day no sticker on it yet. Mint condition 21k miles. That was in '06. Loving every minute owning this car!

I have an 01 SS vert. Black, Black, ebony interior. CME, SS grille, chrome wheels, mats, everything
144 made in 6-speed These are with no SLP breakdowns ofcourse
112 in auto.
So the auto is actually harder to find in my case.

True, in most cases, the ratio of M6s to A4s is higher for SS/WS6/Firehawk 'verts than Z28/TA 'verts. Also, generally speaking, the ratio of M6 to A4s tends to be higher for coupes than 'verts. Seems buyers of performance-optioned cars and/or coupes tended towards M6s over A4s.

sunset orange metallic 37 verts,
Mine is a 02 and the number jumped to 41 that year. Mine is optioned with nearly everything from slp. Part of me wishes i woulda kept it stock but i love it still. I did keep every stock part down to the last bolt though. Just in case. Its all labeled in the basement and packed away.

130 is cool but topping it out is more fun and nerveracking. ;) :D
I'm an F--body guy, I've owned 9 of them. I have also owned a few verts namely some British sports cars and Jeep and a Mustang GT. When I got my 98 Z28 A4 I always said the only thing that would make it perfect is if it was a vert and had a 6-spd and hopefully red. As fate would have it I finally got my vert, an 02 T/A triple black with my 6-spd. Its not a Camaro and its not red but it does it for me.

i got a 98 vert z28 with a m6 i bought from the original owner. straight bone stock about a year ago. it had 160k on it but it was unmolested. it is a totally different car now as it is now a triple black ss with black 20s. u can see on my profile my mod list as it is too much to list now. anyways, i bought a 99 slp roller and did the front end and spoiler swap so my ss parts are oem. I then swapped the motor with a 02 motor that came out of my cousins car as he did a ls2 swap. then i found a wrecked 01 vert for 1200 bucks and took the black interior. the only thing i have 98-99 is the wheel and the dash. to much bs changing that. Anyways, i just put in a built tranny I love the car and actually will be selling it in a few months. if anyone wants to give me their email, i will send some pics as i dont know how to post them. i would appreciate it.
