Alright i just got off the phone with the GM Dealership and the want $1,800 for the transmission and $650 to install so.. That's legit, but i don't fell like paying all that much. So who can point me to a good quality rebuild kit that you've used or herd good feed back from, either from sponsors or an outside site. I've read the stick's, but not sure which way to go. Thanks in advanced...

My god, why do dirtbag tranny shops/mechanics/dealerships rip people off so badly all the time.

My friend is a tranny guy at a Dodge/Chrysler dealership. He has rebuilt my 4L60E two times in the past 7 years. The second rebuild he did for me is going on 4 years now and my tranny is 100% perfect still.

He made me buy all the best parts for the rebuild, $350 if I remember right and he charges me $200 to drop it at the dealership on a Saturday (side jobs allowed), rebuild it and put it back in.

I beat the living hell out of my tranny with ~500 RWTQ (street car only) and mine lasts for 4 years without a single issue. Too bad you're not in South Florida, he does side work all the time and he's as good as a tranny guy can possibly get.

Also, people have shipped their trannys to him in a crate so he can rebuild them, if you're interested.

It's a 97. And i am up to any and all advice. That's why I'm posting. I need all and any help. The trans still goes but it has the 1870 code now theirs no reverse now and sometimes it doesn't want to go its like the engine surges. that's the only time it wants to accelerate. But ill go start it right now and ill bet it'll work fine just no reverse. It has the harsh 1 - 2 shifts. ?????

For around $700, including shipping, you'll get a damn good tranny back. But I would think there's got to be someone near you in a F-Body club that could do it cheap, but good.

I am not going to pay that much for a trans. They can swindle some one else. I'm looking to rebuild myself.

Dang! So the TOTAL (minus shipping charges) is about $500? That's a hell of a deal. Can you please PM his contact info?

Was the rebuild kit based on stock parts or aftermarket parts? Some kits offer more clutches, a new planetary gear set and other goodies that correct the stock flaws and weak links in the 4L60E.

Point me in the direction of the rebuild kit that you purchased, please.

Thanks...
