Default thermostat

I'm sure it has been covered before, but I'm new here. Got a 99z28 convert. Only mods are a catback and air intake and lid. The 3.73's are going in in 10 days. I've noticed that my temp guage stays right at 195 degrees consistantly. Would a 180 thermostat help much power wise? I know I could possibly tolerate more timing with it being cooler. Just got the car (53k) and was going to flush the coolant anyway. would like some opinions. BTW I got 21 MPG in mainly city driving on my first tank full. I'm impressed. Won my first race last night on the way home from Woodward too. Thanks

If you want to keep power leave the stock stat in there and just have your fans tuned to come on earlier. You lose power and efficiency when the motor isnt at operating temperature.

Moving to External from Internal III.

I would do both. Never cared much for how hot these new engines run but they do need get up to temp. Don't know how power it would be worth.
