Anyone know if the torx bolt that bolts the rotor on the hub is needed? Friend and I were changing the rear rotors and pads and the torx bolt's head completely stripped. I went to Napa and they said just said use a screw extractor to get it out, but they said I dont need to put one back in because its just used during assembly in the factory. Thoughts?

I don't think they are....from what I understand, the torx bolts are used by dealerships to hold the rotor in place so the dealership can turn/resurface the rotors while they are on the car. when i replaced my rotors, i removed them as 1 had stripped and i had to use a drill to split the bolt to remove it.

some rotors have them and when you get new ones they wont have the holes, they are not necessary to have.

Not necessary and occasionally very annoying!!

I've kept mine in there, it made easier for when I put the caliper back on with the pads in it!

A dealer would just zip on a couple of your lug nuts back on to keep the rotors flush.

Yea we just had to drill out the bolt until the head snapped off. All is good now. What a pain in the ass though when you dont have an air wrench to loosen stuff.

I broke two torx bits before I said fk it and drilled the head off. I left the nub there, though...mainly b/c I'm pretty lazy. ;)
