I got a vis 2 in carbon fiber hood for my vette. I have seen lots of hood fade real bad where Im stationed. At some point I will probably paint the hood to match the car. Just wondering if there is anything I can "put" on it or whatever to keep it from looking like crap later or if Im just SOL.
Thanks

what you need to do to these hoods when you buy them is have them clear coated!!! because that clear gel coat crap they put on them offers no UV protection!!! just wash them with soap and water, scuff down wet with a grey scotch brite and have cleared....
even if they are hazey, or white looking, if it disappears when rinsed off with water, it will disapear when cleared..

Yep, have it cleared. You can alter the color of your carbon by having a small amount of color added to the clear (ie red or blue tinted) or have it darkened with a little black added to the clear.

i was considering doing this like throwing some dark purple pearl into the carbon fiber when i paint my car, i think that would look tits

Probably next week I'm going to get it clear coated with some red thrown in. Thanks Swiat 34 for the idea. Hopefully it will look pretty cool and not too ricerish.

I had a VIS hood on one of my former civics and it held up fine with DD duties for a year.

But on a vette i would definitaly throw on another coat of clear just to be safe.

Hey no problemo Bud! How about THIS idea, leave plain cleared CF stripes (clear only) and use the red-tinted clear on the rest! Assuming you have a red car, it'd look freaking AWESOME! Or even the word "CORVETTE" along the edges on both sides in plain clear. Kinda "ghost badging" where someone could read the nearest one standing next to the fender. Just to throw a few ideas around...
