Default How does this gear pattern look, L@@K

Hey there, well some of you may know i blew out my ring gear about a month ago. Now i just got a set of (USED) GM 4.10 ring and pinion gears. I am installing them, i put it together and slapped it on the car and it was LOUD, whined real bad so I took it back apart. Backlash is about .007-.009, my question is, how does this gear pattern look? Its close but I think i need to move the pinion either In or Out.. any help is appreciated!! (Also this time ill be using a NEW pinion bearing)

Marking compound applied way too thick !
the coast side has a nice large pattern, but difficult to tell on the drive side.

Both patterns but epecially the drive side are not very well defined and too close to the tooth root.

I did use too much, i will brake clean and try again.

My friend just told me the pinion is way too deep (needs more shim) .. so ill work on it and post and update. Im sure people can use this information

If its a stock 10 bolt, use the stock shim. 99% its on the money. You can also buy a spare pinion bearing and hog it out so it slides on and off. Use that until you get the right shim depth. Did all my 12 bolts that way.

Looks like the pinoin has to much shim. It will open the back lash up after you fix it.

I agree with this 100%

And btw, how do you have a 7-9 backlash? What is it exactly?? Please tell me you measured it.
