Jiffy Lube rear lube job $39.99 Anyone tried their service. I know there are plenty of horror stories but I just found out that they use a suction machine through the fill hole so the cover is not removed at all. Same with their transmission fluid exchange (goes through the dipstick hole).
It's $39.99 for the fluid change and $10 extra if you need the additive. Just concern about what additive they're using that's probably not genuine GM. Would it matter much if it's GM compatible?
Adding up the cost of doing it yourself, I'd only save about $5 (although I'd have a new gasket vs. the old one still there....but it's not leaking).

The brand of the additive isn't really important, but the fact that they are raping you for it should be.
$39.99 for 10 minutes or less worth of work on their part would bother me, too. The only way I'd see that much is if they pulled the cover, and no way would I want one of their clowns doing that.
You're better off doing it yourself.

And it will definitely take me more than 10 mins b/c this is the first time the cover is coming off. I was going do it myself if I was was going to change the cover to one with a drain hole.
So it's costing me about $14 extra for someone else to do it.

Good points guys. I tried taking it off before and gave up. Can't remember why, but I think it was due to the cover not coming off easily. Yea I suck at this.
Right now it's tough b/c I'm training for a fight and both of my thumbs are sprained and they hurt like hell if I put pressure on them....bumping something is even worse. I can hardly even use a fingernail clipper.

I got an el-cheapo
and "paid" for it ! made quite a mess & set me back an hour getting a Real 
pump [not made in china, PRC, murray's/oreily's or harbor freight]anyways, good luck w/ur fluid change. Hope it's not a knee-jerk reaction to any rear axle noises, b/c a pinion bearing or gears will likely be needed soon
