Clutch pedal question?

Clutch pedal question? I have a 2000z28 with 60k miles on it. Stock hydraulics and clutch still. Anyway sometimes the pedal is tough to push down and other times its really soft however, the pedal still comes up and the car still shifts fine in either instance. Any ideas? It doesn't happen most of the time, but when it does im perplexed why it would do it sometimes and not others.
