Default AC problems

hey guys, my A/C stopped cooling last summer, so me & a buddy who is an automotive technician, "recharged" it with new refrigerant. well it worked all last summer but now this summer sometimes it will work & blow ice cold then just start blowing warm/hot air. if it starts blowing warm/hot air & i give it gas(stomp the pedal to the floor) it will start blowing cooler/cold air again for just a couple minutes then start back on blowing warm/hot, can anyone give me some tips/advice/info to help fix this problem. i would really appreciate it. thank in advance guys

You have a leak that needs to be fixed, that's why it was low to begin with last year. Chances are, fixing it will entail a new compressor.

Way to jump to conclusions.... how about the OP gets the system leak checked before buying any parts. No sense in shelling out 100 bucks on a compressor when it was just a 2 dollar seal..... If the system cools after giving it gas you may have a compressor clutch failing as well. Either way get the system professionally checked - shouldn't cost too much.

You figure the odds.....a compressor seal, as it's the only moving part in the system, or a static seal. Odds favor the compressor. So does 35 years of experience repairing A/C systems.

^ I am with this guy. . . . A compressor is a very likely culprit.

But, still check it out before you tear it open and start throwing parts at it.
