Default How can I tell if i have a steel or aluminum driveshaft by looking at it?

I have a 99 ta and i need to know if it has a steel or aluminum driveshaft. The original rear broke, and was swapped out with one that had 3.23's, and i don't know if the driveshaft was also swapped out. How can i tell by looking?

the aluminum driveshaft will look silver, where the steel driveshafts tend to look a little rusty. The aluminum ones always have kind of a clean look to them. Steel ones won't

If you can't figure that one out on your own, I don't think you should be driving.

If it's stock I believe all M6's and A4's with 3.23 gears had them. The 2.73 gears were steel. If you can get under the car try a magnet.

No. M6s ALWAYS had 3.42s in them except for one year, 93. The 6 speeds had the 3.42s because CAGS would bog down the car too much with 3.23 gears from what I was told.

Not ALL M6's had aluminum. If you did not have the "Z" rated tire option you have a steel one and a speed limiter at like 105mph.
