Question Why aren't the LS-3 Vettes faster than the LS-6 Vettes?

All I read everywhere is how impressive the LS-3 motor is. How much more torque it has, etc.

Yet, when I read about quarter mile times. The older LS-6 Vettes dip into the 11s at around 117 miles per hour while the LS-3s are said to run 12.5s at around 115.

What am I missing?

the Z06 is considerably lighter than the LS3 vette. the LS3 vette weighs about 300 lbs more than the Z06 as well the Z06 is geared different i beleive. gears and 300 lbs diet alone will make the cars perform like you have seen.

i dont beleive i have ever seen a bone stock LS6 Z run anything less than high high 11's or deep low 12's.

Cars are about equal according to the fast list of each car at CF, and the ls3 is quicker once you start adding mods. The MN12 is a lower geared transmission in the Z, and it is lighter, but the cubes take over once the modding begins.

Found an 08 on youtube that ran 11.7 at 119 stock. Different class of vette also. Compare base model to base model.

Coming soon. Right now I am doing the disc brake conversion, installing the new rear and trans. After the motor is all built and every part and detail is worked out, I will do the swap. I just love to drive the car, so I could never bear for it to sit torn apart for long.

The LS3 cars have runflats compared to the C5Z,

The GrandSport has Bigger/Heavier wheels/brake rotors compared to LS6

The torque managment is more agressive on the LS3 compared to LS6

The LS3 car is heavier than the LS6

Those are the sole reasons, because a Z51/GrandSport has the same gearing (M12) as the C5Z.

The Ls3 is a lot faster. I've raced both and got smoked by an ls3 on the highway and beat an c5z at all speeds.

Ls3s with full exhaust/ CAI/ tune are running almost the same times as c6 z06s

I would say a full bolt-on C6 LS-3 A6 could run high 10's on a drag radial.Atleast that will my goal when i get one.I bet Ranger could run low 11's in a C6 LS-3 Vette.

So that means a ls6 can run with a ls7 1/4 mile. Because the ls7 run mid to high 11s bone stock on street tires...

The fastest stock ls7 vette has cracked 10s the fastest stck ls6 z06 has cracked 11s.. They are at least half a second from each other and about 10mph difference in trap speed.

So they arent really comparable. Like others said before the ls3 is hindered by a pretty bad factory tune/torque management and with minor bolt ons they get pretty dirty quick
