Default best exhaust for the c5

ok so i recently purchased a 2000 frc with dynatech long tubes dynatech x-pipe catted and a hooker cat-back. I was considering changing out the xpipe to something without cats because i want a little more sound. Any suggestions? also will this throw and check engine lights or mess with anything in the car?

wow that vette sounds mean. Unfortunately the previous owner only put 2.5 inch exhaust on it so i doubt it'll be that loud. Do you guys think that changing the xpipe will help the loudness? also i head something about a down pipe right off the headers to eliminate the cats. Do you know anything about that?

My "X" pipe has a step down half way through it to 2.5". The 3" collector while it might help in the "noise" area it really more to reduce restriction and help scavenging. If you have an "open" exhaust it will sound really like a beast, but take this into consideration. Open exhaust is good for ur power between 4500 to 7K rpm or WOT. LSx engines do work very well with about 1.5lbs of back pressure. 99% of your driving is going to be done around local roads right. If so get a good exhaust right now I am running the ZO6 titanium over axel and the difference is noticeable. I think I probably picked up around 5 to 10 hp down on the low end.

Kooks headers, kooks catted Y then corsa with optional pace car mufflers. That in my opinion would be the best sounding on a vette for sure.

I have a cam only 99 FRC with kooks headers, corsa x-pipe with no cats, and the corsa pace catback. It's decently quiet inside the car with zero drone but screams at WOT.

Best catback overall in my opinion is Borla Stingers. I have had about every catback on my car and it's the best "overall". Sounds good on a stock car or modded. If the car is heavily modded motor-wise, then you might want something toned down a bit. Had them on my car for almost 3 years, then wanted a change.

SLP sound like crap. B&B Bullets sound badass only on a modded car with cam.. etc... But are too much if you drive the car around town a lot.

I personally now have Corsa and like them alot. It's a refined sound.

I would personally leave the rest as is and dump the hooker catback exhaust for something different.

I think you would like B&B's. SLP catbacks on C5's sound raspy as hell. SLP LM2 catback on my Trans Am is loud and I like it but it is too loud and raspy as hell.
