Default Skip shift

What are the advantages to disconnecting this and what is the process of doing it? My light comes on but doesnt seem to effect anything. So Im not sure really what it does.

If your car is a '94 or '95 this link explains how to disable it. It only takes 10 minutes and doesn't cost a dime.
