Any GM techs know book labor hours for engine swap?
Looking to get a rough idea oh how many hours I will get "credit" for whenever it comes time for the insurance to cut me a check.
All hours to replace the engine with the factory LS1 on a 2002 Firebird Trans Am M6

I don't have the figures for your car, but for what it might be worth, these are the flat rate allowances for a LS-engined Cadillac CTS-V.
Remove and replace motor, no transfer of any engine parts, or optional equipment =15.7 hours.
Remove and replace motor, including transfer of all fuel and electrical units, but no optional equipment = 18.7 hours.
Remove and replace long block, including transfer of all parts not supplied with long block = 23.7 hours.
Remover and replace short block with transfer of all parts = 26.7, add 3.8 hours for valve service.
Overhaul/Rebuild, Disassemble and clean engine, ridge ream & hone cylinders, inspect and replace all components, grind valves and tune-up = 38.2 hours.

Haha it depends on if they cheap out on you and use warranty time or if they actually give you chilton's or similar. Even though your car isn't under warranty I"m assuming, they still might try to use warranty based time.
Warranty pay is a joke these days....A COMPLETE JOKE and that's one reason nobody is getting into the auto repair field anymore....or getting out fast once they do get in it. I have a feeling they won't care if you have to transfer parts for a short block, long block or whatever. They will probably just pay the lowest they can.....thinking 15 hours or so if you are lucky.

Should be 20-22 hours by the book

Those were body shop rates. He upped them to mechanic's rates @ $95/hr. He quoted 18 hours including R&I, of 14 hours, 2 hours of inspection, and 2 hours for re-tune. He also totaled the engine value @ $3100 plus 25% markup for miscellaneous parts the may be needed. He totaled this up to $5900 minus my $500 deductible totaling $5400 to me to build a shortblock. I will be able to build a 408 for $4200 including LQ4 block, machine work, rotating assembly, misc specialty tools, gasket kit, new 42# injectors, and tune. This is reusing my bolt ons and top end assembly.

"By the book" hours, actual work hours, and allowable hours per the insurance company will all be different anyways. Any hydrolock etc that I have seen is quoted by the book as 20-22 hours for pulling the old engine, removing the parts you will reuse, cleaning them up appropriately, reassembling it all on the new engine, and installation back into the car. Some insurance companies cover the whole time quoted by a dealer, some have a shorter 12-16 hour "allowable" time.

Yea, they used 7.1 hours to R&I the old engine and doubled it for misc such as flushing coolant and power steering and brake lines etc. Then added 2 hours for diagnosis, pull plugs and try and turn motor, and another 2 hours to "re-tune" the engine. The adjuster didn't look anything up, he went by what my buddy said for time. This was all quoted as replacing it with the entire longblock.
Thanks for the info guys, I am getting started on the 408!!

So because it was caused by the environment it's covered by your auto insurance? Or something along that line? Lol. I also have full coverage (I'm actually about to get mine appraised to get the value upped) but I've never heard of this.

It was flood damage, insurance covers flood damage, at least down here in TX. Insurance is writing the check to me and this old shop I used to work for.

Luckily, mine did not. The water was across this 3 lane stretch of road, over the curb. The stretch of road that water was over the curb was about 45-50 ft long. To the right was a driveway to a parking lot that was 3-4 ft higher than the road. I figured 10 ft of 7"+ deep water to get to the driveway would be better than 45-50 ft to get across the section of road that was flooded. I was wrong, the road slanted towards the driveway where in actually it was about 18-24" deep and I went head first into it...
