Default What cam? lq4 in foxbody

Im new to the whole lsx thing. Too used to sbf's I guess but I put this stock 05 lq4 in my notch. Its been 12.3@111 in 4500ft da with nothing more then longtubes, cai, and a converter. Im looking for more and want to go 11.5 with hopefully nothing more then a cam/injectors/new tune.

I have ls6 springs that I put on while the heads were off when I got the motor. I know their not really rated for much lift but is there anything that might get me where I want? I plan on turbo later and hope to go 10's but I dont know how long that will be to get there.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

if you have ls6 springs, then you are most likely limited to gm cams. asa, grand am cup cam, or ls6...

i would suggest a better spring rated to handle more lift. this will greatly open up your options for cams. given that the engine is utilizing stock compression and you have a 3200 stall, i'd say something in the 228-232 range duration-wise would be a good choice. many vendors sell cams in that range.

if you're wanting some powa...mill those heads and find a real cam to use with a single plane.

ah moron

I say this save your pennies and do the whole upgrade. Since apparently this is a track car drive ability is not going to be an issue right. An EPS 236/248 or MS4 would be a good starting point for that engine.

Since those springs are good to 0.570" lift, and since you only have 9.4:1, I'd try a COMP 3713 intake lobe, and a 3715 exhaust lobe. This would result in a 220/224, 564/568, and your choice of lobe sep and advance.

Some of you cant read. Thinks for the options though. The car is fuel injected, why would I go with a single plane intake? Ill stick with the stock truck one for now. And this is a street car, gets driven more then it gets taken to the track.

And for the guy that said stick with a ford motor, LOL, Ive had a few combinations in this car. And the fastest it went was 12.2@113 and would break all the time. Had a forged 306 with full edlebrock top end H/C/I, 5 speed, carb, fully built for a 306 and thats the fastest it would go. But after having to have it rebuilt 3 times in 2 years I was fed up.

I'm not sure a 220/224 will get you there. I admit my LSx experience is far short of my SBC experience. But I've been thinking on it, and I'd order that, on a 112+3.

Changing springs is also no problem. Texas speed has some good deals for cam/spring/pushrod packages just dont know which one would work best.
