Convertible Vehicles - top question...

i have a 99 convetible firebird. when i let the top down, it ill go back about 1/4 of the way and then stop. so i kinda have to push up on it to get it to continue going down. it comes up smoothly. any ideas on whats wrong? just old? TIA!

First I would lube all the pivot points.

also check the hydrolic fluid,
