Default Need help with my decision - LS1 or LQ9

What would make you all pick the LQ9 over the LS1, other than them being cheaper? Right now I'm curious how much of a difference it'd make by adding 65 lbs to the front... as far as getting the front tires to lift and transferring the weight to the back tires. With the same mods... - 238/242, .6 lift, ported 5.3 heads, ls6 intake, 1 & 7/8 headers, 3400 stall, how much extra torque might I get with the LQ9? Not enough to cover the weight difference? hmmmm

Well, do you plan on leaving the stroke @ 3.622" or upping it to 4.000"?

I am swapping an iron 408 right now

Im kinda at the same dilemma. At what point do you decide to go with Iron (LQ4/LQ9) versus sticking with an LS based motor? Its kind of a 2 part question. Basically at what power level can you justify going to Iron, also considering that that increased capacity for power also adds 65lbs to the front end.

I would pick the LQ9 just because you can put L92 heads on it, which opens up a cheaper high flowing head selection than the cathedral port heads.

I don't plan on stroking it later on, nor running a lot of boost or nitrous...

lq9,
better mod potential and you might be able to sell your ls6 intake, ported 5.3 heads and the 317 heads and buy a l92/l76 setup and maybe even save money over a ls1 setup and make more power.

So much more possibilities with the 4" bore.

I wouldn't go iron if you're not doing nitrous or boost. Stick with aluminum for N/A No need for the heavy block if you're not bringing it to the limits. That does not mean you shouldn't use something with a 4" bore, but I would not do LQ9 or LQ4

Default to iron or not to iron

I agree with the guys if your not spraying over 300+ or making killer boost the ls1 block will be fine. Now having the LQ9 or LQ4 iron allows more room to grow. I built a nitrous motor using the LQ9 block and forged internals also bored it to a 370 cu.

The extra cubes and torque are nice with the LQ9. Also enables you to have larger cams act more street friendly.

or I could put a zero mile 365ci I had built in the car. Its boost friendly, but I was going to sell it and put a stock shortblock back in so I can use the extra funds to do other stuff to the car. I asked my builder about it and he said its up to me, but he thinks it would be cool to see it in the car since he put it together and will be tuning it.
