Default tire width on 9.5" wide rim

I hate to make one of these little topics that I'm sure have been done thousands of times but I want to make sure before I buy. I need new tires for my front 17" C6 Z06 replicas with a 9.5" width. Now I've been using a 245/45/17 because that's what it recommended when I bought them but it's way too small. There's a noticable gap between the tire and rim (and now my rims are dented to hell!) My rears were the same way using 275/40/18 until I bumped up to 295/35/18 and now they fit tight as a glove. With the fronts I was going to go 265/40/17, but I read in the sticky above that a 275 would be ideal. Is that stretching the limits on the width or would a 265 do just fine? Is there any benefits of getting a wider tire up front? I do some pretty spirited driving and the edges of the tire always wear out much faster than the rest of the tire.

I would go with a 275. You should be able to run a 265 no issues as long as its on the fronts.

I would run a 275 as well. They fit a 9.5" wheel nicely, and they may actually be cheaper than the 265s. Youll have more tire options, since its a very common size as well.

275 is the recommended size for a 9.5" wheel

275/40R17 is the perfect tire for that wheel.

try 285/40/17 when i need new tires thats what imma get to have a lil wider tire instead of the 275/40/17 that i have on there now and to have a lil better protection to the wheels as well

Do you happen to have any pics of how the 245 look on the front?

275/285 will look and work great. My 1995 C4 'vette came with 285/40/r17 on 9.5" wheels out back.

275 would be big enough for the front. I've seen people run a 295 in the rear on a 9 and 9.5" wheel with no issue.
