Default Ressurection Project: 2003 Cobra | 415ci LSX | GT4780 | RMVB 4L80 | 8.8 SRA

I figured I would put this up for everyone to follow and for a central source of any information related to the swap that I come across.

A friend of mine's father bought a low mileage 2003 Cobra in late 2007. It was Redfire w/ Parchment, 1 of 197 and only had 7,700 miles. The car was all original except for some pin-striping that the previous owner added.

Over time they did the typical mods (pulleys, exhaust, etc), had the pin stripes removed, and kept the car very clean and it managed to stay low miles.

Fast forward now to summer of 2009, he let his daughters boyfriend (ex after this fiasco) borrow the Cobra and the scumbag sold the engine, trans, harness, computer, seats, and a few other things on top of damaging some of the glass, a few body panels, and refusing to give the car back. He (ex-boyfriend, whom will be referred to as scumbag for the remainder of this topic) tried to sell the rolling chassis, which of course wasn't his, on SVTPerformance and we were able to set him up and get the vehicle back

My friends dad has been up a creek without a paddle on this car since then. Insurance would not cover the damages because scumbag had permission to have the vehicle in his possession so it was not considered stolen. So he has been making payments on a shell of half a car that has just been sitting and rotting.

So, here is where I step in. I will be picking up the car from him with (we think) around 25k miles as a rolling chassis and bringing it back to life. The car will be a street/strip car that I will be running in PSCA Limited Street (http://pscaracing.com/Rules/rules_10_limitedstreet.html).

The car should have a race weight of 34xx pounds including me (I am no lightweight at ~295lbs). The car will need to run and drive like a stock vehicle (includes stock gauges, lights, etc), all parts must look stock, and it needs to be a very clean install so I have my work cut out for me.

Work on the project will not start until around Halloween hoping for a January debut.

I love to talk tech and talk shop, any questions feel free to ask.

Can we get you on video when you pick the car up from him, showing how badly you're going to beat his face in with a steel rod? That would be most amusing.

I think once the car is done, you all should drag the dbag behind it, like dragging somebody out of town behind a horse in the old west.

Sounds like a hell of a build. I was confused when I saw the thread title, makes sense now.

I hope by setting him up you meant reclaming the car, brutally murdering him, and throwing his body in a river wrapped in chicken wire.

You should get a lawyer, exceeding the scope of permission is stealing. Stripping the car is beyond a doubt stealing. You should be able to get the insurance to cover it in a lawsuit and you damn sure can press charges and make him pay to replace it personally.

I didn't see this yesterday because it looks like you posted at the same time as I did.

This option has been exhausted and the way the law works in NV, you can loan me your car and I can do whatever the hell I want with it, and it is not considered stolen because you willfully gave me the car.

He can have charges brought against him to make him pay for it, but we had to play cat and mouse for 6 months and set up some elaborate shenanigans just to get the car back. So finding him to serve him will be no easy task in itself.

I'm that case I'd whack him once I found him, and that would be the end of that...oh and take whatever cash was in his possession at the time

I do not know how any (sane) person could part out a perfectly good car, but that is what happened and gave you the opportunity to rebuilt it.

Just ran across this thread. Its a great idea and I love LS Mustangs.

Word of advice, ditch the chinese K1 rods and go for Oliver Billets w/WSB bolts. Id probably go with a Callies Magnum crank as well. Your going to need to spend some serious coin on that bottom end if you want it to live behind an 80mm. Youve got the right idea with the LSX though.

How fast are they running in that class?
