IAT issue on 04 Goat
I've been working on my buddy's 04 GTO over the past couple weeks and I'm having a problem with the intake air temps. I'm seeing 140+ in my logs. He's running an AEM intake. I've been on the GTO boards and people are telling about the vararam but they are also telling me it wont fit an 04. Can someone help me out and let me know what cold air kit to tell him to get so I can finish this tune and get the car going right.

A good cone filter in a sealed box or moved to the inner fender in front of the D/S tire will lower the temps a bunch. Search over at LS1gto dot com for HSRK (heat soak reduction kit) that may help you out. Moving the IAT sensor closer to the fresh/cold air source helps some too. These cars get really hot under the hood and heat soak pretty bad, resulting in quite a bit of pulled timing.

I think that I posted in your thread on the other forum. The LPE CAI is probably one of the better off the shelf intakes for the 04 if you want a heatshield to lower IAT temps. You could also look at the Hardcore do it yourself kit.

IMHO one of the best intakes out there is the Svede Speed intake. It is an over the radiator type intake. Do a search on here and LS1GTO.com and contact him if you are interested. I have not seen any bad reviews.

where does this intake take in air from? im just curious...unless you could direct air from the bottom of the car like the kits for the camaros, right? then again, I think it restricts a lot of air intake, if you look at the first pic, i believe its like trying to suck a whole can of soda asap through a straw, unlike the AEM kit that has a huge tube to suck air from who knows where BUT in my opinion its not as restrictive as this one. its an awesome idea though, just my 5 cents

have the svede on our car and love it, it gets the air from the grills in the nose and the small gap in the hood. We have done plenty of testing and it works just as good if not better then the headlight out with a CAI air box with 4in tubbing (i have the CAI box and tubing for sale if intersted)
the vararam only works on the 05-06 we tried it
