Default Whining noise coming from engine or steering?

Lately I've noticed that my car makes a weird whining noise, almost like a wind up car upon acceleration. It happens intermittently but when I accelerate it gets louder and quieter when I lay off of the accelerator.

I've also notice that it gets louder when I turn the car and sometimes I can feel something in the steering when the noise is there. Any ideas on what it could be?

Sounds like power steering pump is on it's way out!
Does it come on gradually as the car warms up? That's how mine started.

Yeah that seems to be the case. It's definitely after the car has been running a while when I notice it. I'll be driving and will hear the whine when the windows are down and it doesn't go away after it starts.

When I drive the car later it may or may not come back. Why does it get louder upon acceleration?

Belts are wrapped around the PS pulley so the the faster it spins with RPMs the louder it gets, but that's definitely your pump going out.
