Default G-body LS1 4L60E folks- which shifter are you using?

Just curious to know specifically which shifter, cable, and trans brackets are you using in your car.

I'm trying to make a stock '86 shifter play nice with a 2001 4L60E. I have OEM cables from the '01 and the '86. Using any combination of parts will require field modifications, but I'm not sure which is the path of least resistance. Just curious to see what others are doing.

I used the 85 shifter, cable, etc. I had to bend and modify the z-bar to clear my exhaust. There are a couple of issues though. I used a th200 non overdrive cable (as far as I can tell its the same length throw but the overall length of the cable is an inch or so longer) I can`t seem to get the geometry perfect, I had to replace the old cable (broke it pulling the engine the 2nd or 3rd time) and after that I revised the geometry for less binding and ended up losing manual access to first gear. By the way only use GM cables, the aftermarket cables from pioneer and dorman are inferior POS that are not made exactly the same and will work well in the pull direction but are too flimsy to push correctly.

I tried using the '01 F-body cable and '86 shifter. I had to massage the shifter end of the cable and do light fab work to secure the cable to the shifter. The bend radius is too tight. I may need to sleep on it for a while, but I'd prefer to stick with OEM hardware for an OEM quality finish.

Bump

Any other solutions?

I have 4l60e and 1in setback plates.

Before I got tired of laying on my back under the car it looked like the stock 88 monte shift cable is too short for the trans.

I'm trying to use the monte original floor shifter.

B&M 80690 Megashifter with the 75498 Transmission Brackets. Some obvious assembly & fab required.

Thinking more in terms of factory shifter.

Maybe I'll buy a fbody shifter and cable.

What length cable did you guys use with your shifters?

I'm going to find the original 200r4 bracket that mounts to the transmission and trying to make it work on the 4l60e and make up some kinda extenstion since the cable it too short.

Or I'll buy a B&M cable by itself and try to get it to work with the factory floor shifter.

I ended up purchasing a B&M cable and brackets last night, going to try and get them to work with the factory shifter.

B&M pro stick mounted into a console. I don't seem to have a completed image, but here's what I had going on while I was still working on it.

Neat little custom 442 black **** to replace the white one that didn't look good.

The guys putting the Holley Monte Carlo SS project car together installed this B&M shifter in the car last week to control the 4L80 installed behind the LS engine, but it includes brackets to work with the 4L60 as well.

I used the F-body shifter and a G-body shift cable from a 2004r cable. The shifter plate wont fit correctly so you will have to trim it down and it still won't fit very well. I only used the fbody shifter so I could use the neutral safety switch on the shifter but the switch is shorted. Basically how I mounted it was sheetmetal screws right into the floorpans

Going to redo it one day but it works fine for now
