Default First start checklist

So after numerous mind changes and me dragging my *** the last few months to get this done, im about ready to get this thing started up with the new cam and needed bolt ons. Since this is my first in depth build im new to this and wanted to make sure i have all my bases covered before giving it that first crank up...so lets see the little odds and ends that i need not forget.

Most important is oil pressure. Make sure you have it. Then proper cooling.

You'll know pretty quickly if you forgot something. Go over all the electrical connections, make sure everything's plugged in. Use common sense. Fire it up.

^ what they said. check over every single connector twice! wiggle, pull, push them all just to assure yourself that there seated properly. Then disconnect the coil and turn it over till oil PSI is built up. Also if you have a fuel PSI tester its always nice to check the fuel PSI just to be safe. after it all checks out. fire that son-a-b!tch up!

A cam swap doesn't require re-priming of the oil system...

Right, it won't hurt anything, but it isn't an absolutely necessary step. That's all I'm saying.

If it's been sitting for those months that you say you were dragging your ***, absolutely do an oil prime before you even turn it over.

Did you use assembly lube on the journals and 30w oil on the lobes?
Did you check the valve tip pattern?
Did you put enough silicon on the front and rear intake, (common place to leak oil)

And personally I dont use synthetic oil for my camswap's.
What cam, springs, rockers, lifter are you running?

Yes
Someone else did the spring swap for me(Colin91Z) so unsure but trust he knew what to look for
Yes, cant have imagined using more haha
226/234 .575/.575 on a 109lsa LE cam, patriot gold springs, 1.6 pro mags and ls7 lifters

Ive made pretty sure all the connectors are tight and seated. Ill def prime the oil system as it has been sitting a bit. Preciate the help guys

good advice given...I find using a temp gun to monitor heat on each cyl during initial start up is a good idea. if one or more cyl is noticebly high or low in temp compared to others shut down and find out why. typically cyl 3&5, 4&6 exhaust run a little hotter since those valves/header is next to each other

you also need to bleed the air from cooling system...

if you do pull coil wire to crank and build up oil pressure...might also want to pull the FI fuse also so you don't wash down cyl...

if you lubed cam right and doused the top end with motor oil before putting on valve covers you should be ok without prime since you just did cam swap but bringing OP up before starting a motor that has sat for months is never a bad idea.
