Car "uses" oil. Need help
Car is a 2002 T/A. Motor has a MS3 cam and the usual stuff with it. LS6 oil pump and timing chain, UD pulley the rest of the bolt ons.
Anyway it was down a quart this morning and it only has about 1k miles on it since last oil change. Mobile 1 5w-30
It does not leak any oil. It does puff a little when it first starts up. Other than that I dont think it smokes at all. But I have never driven behind it, nor has anyone ever told me it smokes.
What can I do to try and figure out where and why the oil is going??
I do beat the snot out of it if that matters.
Thanks

You beating the snot out of it has alot to do with your oil use.... that and Mobile 5w30 is super thin and not very tolerant to abuse. Driving your car hard is probably allowing you to suck up more through your pvc system and it's getting eaten that way. I'd either take it a little easier on the car, or switch to a better quality oil IE German castrol, pennzoil....... pretty much anything but mobile 1 5w30 Personally I've been running Pennzoil platinum and it's eating very little oil and I also beat the snot out of my car. 5w30 weight too.

Im with Blackhawk on Penzoil Platinum! how many miles are on this car? Not enough info..racing and such..I use about a quart every 2500..but it dont puff when started..u may have a valve seal issue..but my issue is pcv, not enough crankcase ventilation..so i recently put in a catch can..I pretty much just race this car..

Motor has about 50k on it..
No racing just alot of burnouts and I always wind the **** out of it..
Is there any way to check if it is a valve seal? Or if I need a catch can?
I want new heads anyway. 2 birds 1 stone..
Thanks

An LS6 valley cover will help slow oil consumption if it is PCV related issue. A catch can is not going to stop oil consumption. It is only meant to keep it from getting sucked into your intake.
I have both and still get oil in my catchcan after beating the snot out of my car. I was burning around the same amount of oil as you before I replaced the valley cover. I also run Pennzoil Platinum 10 30
Another issue you might be having is valve seals or rings. Doing a leakdown test will give you a better idea.

How bout get that water out of their. Try putting in some VR1 20w50 in it. That's what I run in mine, much better protection than that water. I still use some to, although I don't exactly take it easy on the motor either.
I check my oil after every trip in my car, bc my last motor spun and stacked some bearings bc lack of checking my oil .

Here is the exact write up with part #'s --> http://ls1howto.com/index.php?article=18
I did have to cut a peice of my block off to install it.
I have always used 10-30 probably for the wrong reasons. When I switched over, I thought is would increase oil pressure. 10 weight is thicker on startup then 5 weight.

Have 408 stroker motor all new 225 cc tf heads, callies crank, eagle rods,ls6 intake, kooks log tubes and off road y pipe, corsa exhaust, strange s60 rear end, ls7 clutch dss pistons, total seal piston rings ,comp cam .634 in/.632 ext. and a ton of machine work to motor as well. This motor was built by a shop that builds some major bad a$$ power and cubic inch motors and i am having oil consumption problems also.Motor sounds great good oil press, good water temp,no abnormal engine noise, put after market catch can on runs strong 450 rwh, 450rwt. was tuned and dynoed but still runs pig rich at idle so i am looking at getting a new tune.you can not smell oil or see it. I have changed oil so many times the last 2000 miles it isnt funny never dirty.I also run VR1 20/50.Iwould think it should not use any but sounds like i am not the only one with this problem.Motor only has 2000 miles on it all new.
