Drag Racing Tech - What did you paint your cage with?

I'm getting ready to paint the cage in my T/A. I'm trying to decide what will be my best route as far as durabilty and finish. I considered brushing the whole thing with POR15 as it is pretty tough stuff and smooths out to a powdercoat like finish. Thought about spray bombing it too but dont want it to easily scratch.

what has everyone had luck with

I powdercoated mine before welding it in. I had them tape off about 1.5" at the end of each bar and the spots on the main hoop where the bars were to be welded. After it was in, I had some paint matched to the powdercoat and painted over the welded areas. Came out pretty good I think.

Black Hammered Paint.. It brushes on thick, and dries smooth. Ive used it on a ton of stuff. Check out Phil's Mustang bulild thread, he has pics of his with that paint.

yup if it is in the car like you said the black hammertone paint will do the trick.

Before the black hammertone came along, I used an epoxy based urethane paint, it's actually used on boats...

I used it on my cage... stuff dries hard as nails, and is very hard to chip/scratch.

The hammertone, I do like alot though, not quite enough to want to strip the paint I have already used, but I would use it on a future build, or new parts that aren't powdercoated.

Maybe even paint the cage again with that stuff... the look really is nice

Black or gray hammertone paint, watch the humidity when you paint it.

Where are you guys buying the hammertone paint at. I was hoping to pick some up locally this weekend to paint my cage.

my local walmart also has it. comes in quarts. don't get the stuff in spray cans...not nearly as good as the brush on stuff.

Last car I did I used Dupont Imron over epoxy primer. It was very very tough and shiny when done. However, both of those are filled with nasty, nasty toxic crap. See Isocyanate. So, if you use them, only spray it with fresh air system respiration. Don't even think about using that stuff with a standard respirator.
