Convertible Vehicles - 'Vert Monsoon System Gypped!

So why were 'Vert Monsoon systems Gypped?! The coupe versions also received two subs in the rear -- seems like a pretty bone-headed move, if you ask me.
Anyone here add in some subs to their 'vert? Where did you mount, and what hardware used? Pics?!
TIA

I think you hit on the root of the problem. Where would you install the extra subs in a vert? Just drive a little slower when you want to hear the music better!

Link to what I did in my sig. But yeah, GM wasn't going to re-design the speaker layout for the 'vert to accommodate extra Monsoon subs since production was relatively small compared to coupes. So they worked w/ the 4 locations already in place.

I put a Boston Acustic 10 inch sub in a ported box with a Diamond Audio amp in my trunk and it sounds fantastic........with the top up lol. I also added an Alpine 9886 deck and alpine type s door speakers. A lil mix and match but I think it sounds great!

Typical GM lack of focus on the customer, just wanting to save a few bucks instead of do it right! I wish they thought more like Apple/Steve Jobs in that respect...

Well, there's a will, there's a way. :pimp:
The aftermarket custom audio guy I spoke with would put it in the trunk, but if you go too small you won't hear much with the top down (obviously)...

I have JB's box with a couple of RE audio 8" subs. Top down it's ok. Nothing that'll blow you away but it is a fuller sound than without them.

I am running his box with a couple Boston Acustic 8" subs, and a 500 watt mono amp. I have found the system to more than adequate for me. Yeah, it's more subdued with the top down, with the top up, I find I am backing off the bass setting.
I am getting ready to put the car up on ebay, trying to decide it it matters to have the box in the car on ebay.....

^ That's a pretty nice design, so how do you have that box fastened in there?

Mine had this in it when I got it, took it out, sounded like crap and vibrated the truck lid and plate, running bone stock monsoon w/ipod mod. For the lil I drive the car it works fine for my needs.
Baddest vert setup I have seen and I have seen it IN person too has added a 12" sub INTO the rear fold up seat, totally stealth, in fact here is his interior and the sub is IN the back seat; http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/stereo-electronics/1296043-vert-sub-back-seat.html

Yep, it doesn't get any better than having JohnyBs's set up in a vert if you want a subwoofer.
Unless you go with a VERY powerful setup, no vert would sound good with the top down but going with a very large bass package would just rattle your car.
I'm personally getting rid of my Alpine 10" with thats in a bulky box that takes up half of my rear well. A good headunit, component speakers and a 8" sub goes a long way IMO.
Check out Alpine's "thin line" subwoofers, the mounting depth isn't alot.

I originally had just put some 8" subs I had out of an old set of truck boxes when I installed JB's box. Last week I replaced them with a set of RE Audio 8" and it's a major improvement! Found a deal online for 50 a piece... I also swapped out all the cabin speakers with the kit from Kee Audio as well. I'm happy now!

These are Alpine SWR-T10 ,10" Thin Subwoofer (4Ω) but they are pricey $499 each since they are just being announced into market.
According to their website
"The Type-R Thin subwoofer series combines the intense low-bass performance and ground-shaking output of the traditional Type-R subwoofers in a thin package optimized for extremely small enclosures."

Another thing I tried was to mount the amp on top of the gas tank (behind rear seat) and run the wire to the sub. On those days I needed my trunk space, I could disconnect the speaker wire and leave the box at home.

Yea, as I recall the coupe Monsoon subs are dual-8", and it sounds SO much better than the 'vert.

It has two nylon wrapped cables that go forward from the box and hold it in the well. They wrap around the side mounts for the seats and are clamped there so you can remove the box if need be.
I first had no speaker grills on the setup, that is mandatory.... We made the ones I am running, couldn't find any that those long throw Boston's wouldn't hit.

I'm pretty sure what he's saying is that grills ARE mandatory if you want to use your trunk and avoid damaging your subs.
