Default Exaust band clamps

Where can i find good exaust clamps, Ive seen them on other cars where they tighten to both pipes and theres like a steel braided material inbetween them. Just wondering what everyone does my last setup with the ones i got from hooker always had a few small leaks.

The ones with the braided material are flex connections - I don't think that's what you want?

If you go with the "Lap" type which have a portion of the clamp over both sides of the pipes that need connected. Try and put some aluminum foil under the clamp(360' wrap). It has worked for many people to get a better seal. When the foil crushes it produces a good seal. Sometimes it is hit or miss really depends on how much you use. It helped me finally seal up my band clamps on my Pacesetter ORY. It was to the point where if the foil didn't work I was going to a exhaust shop and getting the some bitch welded!

Lap style means the pipes overlap each other. Butt style means the two pipes are the same size and just butt end to end then you clamp them. Both styles cover the pipe the same amount, however I give the sealing advantage and strength to the lap style but your pipes have to be the slip on style in order for it to work.

Those are not designed for a lap joint. However, they may still work. But why not buy the right one?

I used the ones that came for my tsp y pipe. I used some of that copper permatex. I put a good size bead around the inside diameter off the clamp, then a little bead around the joints of the y pipe. Clamped them on and it squirted out of the clamps, tightened them down and let them dry. Worked great no leaks

That would defeat the purpose of having a clamp in the first place. But yes they are cheaper on ebay, I havent seen one of those as of yet. I use the Dynatech's myself.

I just used the band clamps; I picked up some red high temp rtv sealer. I put a small line of it around were the over lapping pipe ends, put the clamp on and let it sit over night. Once it hardens it’s just like a gasket, cheap to replace and doesn't crush your pipes you can actually slide they apart.

I only use the v-band clamps in places that I am going to get welded anyway. I didn't really like them but they are way better than the u-bolts those things are crap.

I used the high temp sealer before, when i took it apart it was such a mess i was just lookin for a clamp that would do the job for me. All those options seem solid thoo.

I messed around for months trying different clamps with aluminum foil and all the other tricks. I finally said to hell with it and just bought 2 sets of the 3-bolt collector flanges and had them welded on. Cost me a total of 100bucks and its 100% leak free. Now i have no leaks and the y-pipe can still be un-bolted if needed.

Yeah, everything past the flanges on my stock manifolds back to my cat back is welded and it is being a pain to rip out for the new TSP duals. Skip welding and either go flanges or clamps, or a combination.
