Default new opti now TA wont run right

Finally got everything together and now it won't run right. I started it up without waterpump to make sure and it ran great. Put pump on and finished everything and now it runs horrible. It will miss to the point it almost dies. Any ideas? Maybe I missed something. I have checked and rechecked to make sure all wires are in order. Was in process of bleeding cooling system but shut it down. I'm at a loss. There's only one way the opti can go on right? I mean it was fairly straight forward.

since it started right after the pump and coolant system bleeding you might have gotten the connector for the opti harness wet. pop the plug out and get down there really good with a air wand.

Is it possible I might have missed the cam dowel when installing? I eyeballed the opti to try line them up and it went on fine. Is it possible for the opti to go on if its not lined up?

When you say it ran great with the water pump off, and now it runs horrible, is it running horrible under load, as in when you try to drive it, or does it also run horrible just sitting around revving? What kind of opti did you install?

This will help you answer at least one of your questions.

That thread didn't help since mines a 95 and the optis are different. It does seems like the timing is off especially how it started yesterday. The opti is chandellor motor sports which I knew I was taking a risk on but of all the ppl I have talked to that uses them why would mine not work? On some starts it cranked slow and once started has a horrible miss. Going from 1k-500rpm. I hate to spend 400 on a name brand opti and it not be needed.

Does it rev ok when it isn't under load, which I'm assuming would be the same conditions under which it "ran great" immediately after the install? Or does this issue only manifest itself when you try to drive it?

It won't idle. Under load or not.

Let me rephrase that, it does idle but it misses bad. So bad that every so often it will almost die.

It seems likely that something is either wrong with the opti, something happened during the installation of the water pump, or both. I realize that's probably not going to be a lot of help.

Is the water pump leaking?

Sounds like either the opti isn't lined up properly or a wire is shorted. Did any of the opti harness wires get pinched behind the water pump?

Brand new water pump no leakage and brand new wire harness lol. I'm going to try my old harness to see if maybe new one is bad.

Sounds dumb, but is all the plug wires pushed all the way on? I would pull it back apart and double check. And Nick at Chandler will send you another one under warranty if you let him know (once you've exhausted all other possibilities) I would try to eliminate what cylinder the miss is coming from, bc it could be a plug wire was damaged on accident. So many possibilities.

Is it true that the "Lifetime" warranty is only good for a single replacement?

The wires are only a couple months old but I will check again. On the back of the opti there's 3 holes 2 that are identical and 1 that's different. The odd ball is the one that goes onto the cam pin correct?

I dont know about that. One of his optis is $114 and its like a 1 year warranty. The lifetime warranty opti is like $175. So your warranty length depends on which one you purchased.

Im not questioning the age of the wires. My point was pulling/removing plug wires can sometimes damage them internally. Even brand new wires can mess up if you are too rough with them or they aren't made very good.
