2nd gen swap
Hey guys
Im thinking of a 2nd gen swap in my 78 Trans Am. I was wondering which accessory drive i would need i guess from which model. I was also wondering about the oil pan, and anything else that might need different accessories to fit
Thanks Mike

You can find a carburetor accessory kit; though it costs quite a bit. The last time i was looking into it, it would cost about 2k to carburete a LS1. Now, if you would like to use FI, then go with 99-02 since the ECU 98 is specific to quite a bit on the engine.

you can actually carb it up cheaper than keeping the efi because of the intake clearance issues that com with the truck intake and the price of a swap harness or the headache of modifying the oem harness if the boneyard piece is still intact. you can go on jegs or summit and get the elebrock conversion intake and controller a then you can add the carb of your choice nothing fancy 750cfm at most unless your putting a radical cam in it and your all set you need a map sensor and a some basic wiring that is all covered in the install manual... or you can get the msd controller and the gmpp intake and carb of choice.. but you are going to come out simpler and cheaper that buying ls1 2 3 intake injectors, harness reflash ecu, or custom ecu,. the most expensive would be to covert the motor to run a distributor...$$$$ happy swapping

im doing mine right now ls6/4l60 in a 79 t/a the biggest hassle I have come across so far has been the motor mounts, you cant use the factory chevy clamshell mounts cause the motor is just a bit too wide..... apparently using the 70-73 bbc motor stands bolt into the frame for all f bodies, with the pre drilled holes, then the motor plates that bolt up to the block are just whichever company you choose, edelbrock makes the headers, supposidly you can take a 3rd gen fuel tank sending unit for the f.i motor and it drops right into the tank, just uprade the pump to the 4th gen pump, run the corvette filter with return.... its alot of piecing together and im almost there, hopefully in the next few weeks ill have it running....waiting on some money.... but if you want to see what mine looks like check out the build here:

I made my own motor mount adapter plates and used moroso sbc mounts. I also made my own accessory brackets to lower the alternator and move the ac compressor high on the passenger side. The truck intake cleared my hood with the evap solenoid removed. I have a LQ9/4L80E in a 1981 Trans Am. I switched to the LS6 intake and made an airbox to allow the shaker to be functional. You'll need the f-body oil pan. PM your email address if you would like drawings of the parts I made.
