The original owner of my vert straight-piped the car. At first it was cool but now it's just obnoxious... I'd like something that sounds good, it's a muscle car after all, but doesn't overpower in the cabin while cruising. Thoughts?

I had the LoudMouth 2 and switched to the Hooker. I like the sound of the Hooker and am happy with it. I've heard that the magnaflow sounds good too. Realistically though any muffler will be an improvement over straight pipes.

I have the Borla adjustable catback on my RS -- love it since I will add an E-cutout -- an exhaust volume control is the best, IMHO. The V8 version is the same, but I am not sure the adjustable version fits the 'vert. (or can be made to fit)?
If not, maybe go with Corsa, and add a No Weeds Diverter -- then you will be all good. ;-)

Borla Adjustable with integrated electric cutout here, fits verts just fine.
Also had the flanges cut and swivled so the cutout motor is tucked up into the body and not hanging down.
Exhaust is quiet, even with the cutout open at part throttle. Pretty good roar at WOT though ;)

I was looking at the Borla but I don't want to spend that much. I'm leaning towards just picking up this Magnaflow

and having a shop weld it in.

^Is your piping already 3"?
Definitely add an electric cutout, then you will get the best of all worlds. ;-)

I live the sound of mine's. I have JBA shorties, custom y pipe with an e-cut out. My muffler is Magna-flow. Quiet when you want and loud when you want it.

If you are straight pipes, I 'd throw an electric cutout and a magnaflow muffler on it.
It's quiet but still purrs with cutout closed and LOUD with the cutout open, like everyone said its the best of both worlds.
You won't have annoying neighbors leaving notes in your mailbox about the noise in the morning or the unwanted vibration in the cabin.

Sorry to veer off topic, but what's that bar in your 'vert for? It is not a roll bar is it? If it is, who makes it?

I ended up going with a Magnaflow muffler. I guess after having no muffler I got used it being loud! Now it's really quiet...

That's a light bar. For example: http://www.deftracing.com/light_bar_camaro_firebird.htm

Corsa markets their system as the anti-drone cat-back... So at highway speeds you won't be cabin-droned... Just add an e-valve, and you can make it louder if you ever want and you'll have the best of all worlds...

What does that mean, "Light Bar"? Seems kind of pointless if it does not serve as a roll-bar too...

I didn't want to knock the guy for having one but I feel the same way.
