$32 for the power antenna retaining nut? That's "Nuts!" So i fixed my antenna a few weeks ago and it goes all the way down now but the nut on the top has seen better days. it's got some chipping and now some touch up paint on it since i tried to cover the chips up. anyway i figured i'd spend $5 or $10 on a new one.....
i just found one on ebay for $32
is this really what that damn nut goes for?

yeah but then you gotta remove it and that usually requires a pair of vice grips if you don't have hte proper tool (i had one years ago when i changed the mast but no longer have it) and even with putting a cloth over the vice grips it still scratches the paint on the nut.

I don't remember how I removed it, but by looking at the picture, I think it could be removed without scratching it by:
1) Using a small flat screwdriver as a chisel, drive the nut loose by hitting it in one of the grooves.
2) Once the nut's loose, remove the remainder of the way with needle nose pliers in 2 of the grooves.

Remember if your gonna paint, quick blasts from atleast 8inches away. Dont hold the can right on top of it otherwise its gonna really get wet and drip. Me personally would just paint the damn thing and not worry about it.

yeah from what i'm seeing that is a standard issue nut for any 93-96 fbody regardless of whether or not it has a power antenna. I guess i gotta go junkyard hopping or hopefully find someone parting a car out with good paint on one. hopefully they can get it off without chipping the paint like i did. apparently vice grips with a terry cloth towel around the nut isn't enough to keep it from chipping.
