Default 94z28 i think my tranny is done. need advice on options

i bought this car in june havent driven it much. it has 105k. its a auto.
when i would back up it would jerk funny like when the e brake is on. this whent on for a while and got a little worse then yesterday where i whent to back up and nothing at all. i put it in drive then reverse nothing, reved it to 4500rpm it jerked backwards. it drives fine in drive, same as it always has. i parked it and had to back it in didnt wanna go reved it high to get it backed in and smeeled something funny like burnt rubber afterward. fluid isnt low and smells slightly burnt but not anything thats obviously burnt. ive read alot of posts on this but only found one similar to mine.
i just finished tech school, im broke and the only tranny i can get my hands on for cheap would be a 700r4 or a turbo 350 or something older at the pull a part. i will never find a 94 v8 car at pull a part and i dont have the cash for what a m6 or trans any normal wrecking yard will want.infact i would have better luck finding a car with a bad motor for less in my area. i paid $1500 for this car. i geuss they knew something was up with it. under the car i found spliced tranny lines with rubber lines and hose clamps so who knows the story.
i can rebuild a 5 speed gear box not sure if i can do a auto, and it would depend on whats wrong. maybe i could run a t5. i really hate autos but i dont have alot of options till i find work. so help me out here if you have any ideas what might be wrong with my tranny or options

Go with a TH350 swap, search for it there are a few threads out there. You will be happy you did.

if your tight on money i would start scouring the internet and trying to find good rebuild walk-thrus online, see what kind of specialty tools you may need and see if you can get your hands on them if you decide to do it yourself...
i know you can can save alot of money rebuilding your own transmissions, you can also make good money doing it on the side if you get good at it...

i just did a quick search and found this write up.

Tell us where you're located and maybe somebody can steer you to a good local builder.

so can i use a 4l60e out of a truck as long as i change the tail shaft housing? and something about 95 being a special year? as long as i can get the trans out of something other than a f body i might get lucky. a trans is $55 at pull a part
i think i can rebuild it, but is it cost effective?

You will need a trans from a 94 only, 95's are different.

As far as rebuilding, autos are a fckn nightmare and require a good amount of tools. The T56's are a cake walk.

IMO I would go with a 6spd anyday..that's just me though.

How big is your budget for this?

Na a 94 is it's own unique thing, a 95 is different, 96 & 97 are the same as each other and will work all the way up to an 02.

i live in lynnwood, wa outside of seattle. i found a place that has 3 instock for $500 plus my core. once i get work ill do that. the want 1200 for a t56.

so let me get this right, 93 is non computer controlled, 94 is controlled by the ecu, 95 is differant and 96-97 are the same and only a 94 will work in my car?
why would only a 94 work in my car, whats the reason? i still kinda want to try to rebuild mine rather than get a used one with unknow miles on it. if i do mine correctly it will last longer and as i tech i want to know how to do it.
right now im reading up on it and i have alldata so that helps.

94 and up are all controlled by the PCM. It's the wiring inside of them aswell as small differences in the valve body.

go to the local parts house and get the Haynes manual for GM TH trannys....it includes the 400/350/700R4(4L60, including the E) and the 200R4. You can do it in your garage without very many specialty tools....you really need snap ring pliers and a good basic set. You should be able to get it rebuilt without too many issues. I've one it before. I also spent about $600 in parts for everything including the new sun shell and a shift kit. All in all it was a $2000 trans for $600....and it worked great. you can do it especially if you just got out of tech school...have faith.

i wonder if its something else, i parked the car in a bumpy grassy lot since i have so many cars, anyways wonder if i yanked something loose? it will back up i just have to rev to 4k. is it possible my filter is plugged?it drives perfect forward.
i read this link that was posted in this thread and ive been reading it in my alldata. how much is a run of the mill rebuild kit? i need to get my friend to clear out his garage and drive the car over there im not doing a r&r in the dirt for the millionth time. i wish i could more pinpoint the problem with the trans before i got too carried away.
oh by the way i cant pull any dtc's and my car has a hypertech piggyback and supposedly it changes shift points. i also think it may be why i cant scan the ecu
