Motor has just over 70k on it. Complete w/harness, all accessories, belts, intake, t/b, shrouds, manifolds, etc.

What do you guys think?

Sounds reasonable to me, there was just a fella asking if $850 for a 6.0 with 150k miles on it was OK and if the motor would need a rebuild. Assuming accessories include alternator, power steering, starter etc.

like LS1Nova stated. If you plan on using most of the *extras*... then yes. Don't forget to snag the STARTER w/bolts too.

Yeah I'd love for the guys who don't think this is a good deal to find a motor in the same condition for less and show it to us because if someone could point me to one I'd go get it lol

That seems like a good deal to me, especially if it's really an LQ9 and not an LQ4.

Make sure you get the DBW pedal assembly and MAF.

Id say that a good deal, I picked up a LQ4 with out some acc but included (the guy sais he is going to get them to me, Im not hopeful though) everything else for $800, but I would have gladly payed a couple more hundred for a LQ9 due to the flat top pistons. Like everyone else said, it is a even better deal if you are using the acc drive.

Not to get too far off topic, but just out of curiosity for those saying most people don't use all the extra stuff, why would someone not use it? The lq9 I found comes with everything I want off the truck, and my plan (in the interest of saving time and money) was to use everything I could; pick up some f-body manifolds, a retrolsx pan and a kwik sanden mount and throw that guy in my chevelle while I send the ecm and harness to be reworked. I'm not interested in the lsX intake or headers at this point (student loans to take care of and what not) as it's just for cruising around. Is there an inherent flaw in my plan that I am not seeing?

That is a decent deal in my part of the country. I paid more than that for a 5.3 and no accessories (however the engine had 400 miles on it)

The accessories don't always fit. Depends on the the application.

There have been enough Chevelle swaps that looking at a few build threads should let you know what can be reused and what you will need to replace.

Yes, that is a very good deal. I paid $1200 + core for my 55,000 mile LQ9 and that was intake to oil pan with no accessories, starter or flywheel. I was thrilled to get that deal.

You will have all kinds of people on here tell you that they got an LS6 for free in a box of cracker jacks, but when it comes time to actually buy a motor in the real world, it is a whole other story.

Typically, LQ9s are selling from $1700 to $2200 on Car-Parts.com with various miles up to 150,000.

Stop saying that, you're driving the prices up each time you are lazy and buy the first one that come up for sale with the word "cheap" in the title

Use this
http://www.lkqcorp.com/home/home.asp
And this
http://charlotte.craigslist.org/
And this
www.ebay.com

If you paid more than $500 for a complete 5.3 that wasnt a new crate engine you got ripped. Period. They are just too common and easy to find. Heck, one quick search on C'list in 3 cities showed about a dozen under $500 without crazy mileage. You just have to look

6.0's are nearly as common, but not $1400-2000. For that price, you might as well save another month and grab a LS2

You guys need to use www.car-parts.com you can get LY6s fairly cheap. In fact, I got mine 08 LY6 with ECM w/ 30K for $1450 ( 1400eng/50ecm) I was looking recently and found LY6s as low as 900 (higher milage though)

There are some of those LY6 motors out there cheap on Car-Parts.com. That is interesting that they sell for the same as the LQ9. I wonder if people just did not know about them or if they are afraid to fool with the VVT, intake and other little differences.

You have to take region into consideration too. The prices are a lot lower in the sticks and depressed areas of the country than in higher population area where things are booming. Alabama, Mississippi and the Carolinas seem to have considerably lower quotes on Car-Parts.com than in the coastal areas here in Florida.

I have been searching hard for an LY6 for the last month or so. I called dozens of salvage yards through car-part.com, ebay, craigslist, and this forum. I found that when you pick up the phone and talk to these folks most of the "good deals" or "low priced" engines are longblocks with a lot of miles. Yards that had changeover parts (ECM, accessories, wiring, pedal, etc) were few and far between. I ended up going with a 60k mile LY6 with all the necessary changeover components for $1950 (shipping as we speak). Getting the whole package from one vehicle ensured matching components and I felt that was worth paying for. I feel like this was a fair deal considering what I found over the course of the month.

Another resource if you want the whole vehicle is www.iaai.com. That is where a lot of the salvage yards get their vehicles.
